Interview with Karen Handel, Author of Planned Bullyhood

 Pundit Press is proud to present interview number 57 in our ongoing interview series. She's been the first elected Republican Secretary of State, as well as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Sonny Perdue. She joined the fight as Senior VP of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She has recently written Planned Bullyhood about how she was bullied after the famous spat between the organizations. We thank her for her time.

1. When and why did you decide to write Planned Bullyhood?

 I decided to write this book some months after leaving Komen and after a book agent reached out to me on behalf of the publisher. Writing a book on this -- or any topoc for that matter -- wasn't something I had ever considered. I wrote Planned Bullyhood because an organization I care about (Komen) and a cause that so many of us care about (ending breast cancer) was taken hostage by Planned Parenthood and its allies on the left. They literally tried to destroy Komen and all to make a political point - - to further the "war on women" campaign theme and to send a message that no one can walk away peacefully from PP. this was never about the money or mammograms -- it was just $700k in PP's $1 billion budget and PP does not do mammograms. in fact, according to cecile richards, 95% of PP's clients are under 40. guidelines call for mammograms starting at age 40. PP put its political agenda ahead of women and the fight against breast cancer.

2. What is one surprising fact that most people don't know about Planned Parenthood?

Three important facts: 1). PP does NOT do mammograms. 2) 95% of PP's clients are under the age of 40 -- guidelines call for mammograms beginning at age 40. 3) PP receives $1.5 million a day in OUR tax dollars. our tax dollars are effectively subsidizing PP's political activities which include nearky $5 million in tv ads already purchased in support of Obama's re-election.

3. How has your public service shaped your opinion of the Planned Parenthood vs. Susan Komen Foundation fight?

 When I joined Komen, i stepped back from politics. While i had personal concerns re PP and even Komen's relationship, I always kept Komen's mission -- the fight against breast cancer as the top priority. I did not view the fight against breas cancer has left or right -- it is simply about ending this devastating disease that affects 1 in 8 women. WHat has shaped my opinion about PP's attack on Komen is this: PP and the left nothing about the fight against breast cancer or even women -- PP and the left cared about making an example of Komen and they bought a good organization to its knees for their own political agenda.

Arlen Specter Dead at 82

From the Washington Post:
Former senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s most durable political figures, who during three decades in the Senate became known for his command of constitutional law, died of cancer Oct. 14 at his home in Philadelphia. He was 82.

The death was confirmed by Scott Hoeflich, Sen. Specter’s former chief of staff.

Sen. Specter was long a voice of Republican moderation, but he handed Democrats a supermajority in the Senate by switching parties in 2009. He lost the Democratic primary the next year in an anti-incumbency movement that swept many veteran politicians from office. He had also exposed himself to charges of political opportunism by changing his party allegiance.

YouTube Broken by Space Jump

Update: It seems that YouTube is getting back on its feet. has gone down thanks to Felix Baumgartner's historic jump from space.

YouTube hosted Mr. Baumgartner's jump live and was sponsored by Red Bull. At its height, there were more than 7.5 Million people watching the same video at once.

When Mr. Baumgartner was about to touch down after a successful jump, the site began to experience problems. A few minutes after, the entire website was having a server error, leading people to receive this message when they try to go to YouTube:

The first Presidential “Debate” of the 2012 election season (10/3/12) produced an outcome that surprised millions of people. This writer is mildly chagrined to include himself in that group. (See “The ‘Debates’ Will Be Crucial,” posted here 9/27/12). An unusual combination of a slightly less scripted format, a slightly less intrusive moderator, and proof for all to see that Barack Obama cannot order breakfast without his teleprompter, caused Mitt Romney to be universally declared the winner.

The second “debate” (Vice President, 10/11/12) was more true to form. Barack Obama, it seems, attended the 1991 wedding of the moderator, Martha Raddatz, an ABC “Senior Correspondent.” The groom, Julius Genachowski, was on the Harvard Law Review with the Magnificent One, and went on in later years to be one of the One’s wealthiest and most generous donors and bundlers. That had nothing to do, of course, with the One’s appointment of Genachowski to head the Federal Communications Commission.

At any rate, Raddatz understood that her job as “moderator” was to allow Biden to interrupt Paul Ryan an actual 92 times in the approximately 45 minutes allotted to Ryan. Ryan was ill prepared for that as well as for Biden’s clownish buffoonery. The buffoonery would have merely made Biden look like an idiot (“just like Joe,” according to his defenders). But the serial interruptions made it difficult or impossible for Ryan to keep a train of thought. Biden might just as well have walked over and clapped his hand over Ryan’s mouth every time it was Ryan’s turn to talk. Thus Ryan was ill served by his “debate” coach, Ted Olson (incorrectly named by this writer as Romney’s “debate” coach). Olson’s claim to fame was having argued some forty cases before the ritualized and structured  formality of the Supreme Court, a venue in which, shall we say, Joe Biden would not thrive.

Now we approach the next crucial “debate” (10/16/12), in the ever-informative town-hall format, peopled exclusively with “undecided’ voters. Pony-tailed aging hippies will ask Romney what he, if elected as the nation’s figurative “Father,” will do to care for his “children.” Romney, unfortunately, will probably be happy to discourse on that. The One’s mantra will be “Osama is dead and GM is alive!” We will hear from the One, no doubt during times when it is Romney’s turn to talk, things like: "We refused to let Detroit go bankrupt . . . we bet on American workers and American ingenuity, and three years later, that bet is paying off in a big way."

What we will probably not hear, not from the townfolk and not from either candidate, is this 2011 quote from Dan Akerson, CEO of General Motors: “Almost seven out of every ten automobiles – seven out of ten of our vehicles – were made outside of the United States.” Most of that seven, and the factories, technology, and, dare we say it – jobs, have gone to China. Candy Crowley will not be bringing up that quote, if she is even aware of it. She knows her assignment, just as Martha Raddatz did. For the rest of us, don’t get out your notebooks, get out your prayerbooks. God help us.

Well, it’s been a while since I've posted anything.  I've been very busy at work.  What little time I have, I try to protect it from stuff that only raises my blood pressure. 

Having said that, it's time once again to plumb the depths of liberal idiocy of my local newspaper and display the glittering jewels of colossal ignorance that rest on that seabed.  This first one comes from Abel Tomlinson.  Abel actually ran for state Senator a couple of years ago on the Green Party ticket. 

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette must evolve. The paper is failing on the two most important fronts: news information and wise opinion.

Virtually every opinion columnist is writing with partisan blinders. Can we at least have one conscious columnist with clear enough vision to see that both parties are corrupted and owned by corporate election financiers, especially Wall Street? Can we have one columnist who not only understands this, but consistently discusses solutions for draining the stagnant slime from the putrefied cesspool that is Washington, D.C.? Perhaps more importantly, the newspaper is failing to document the revolution for deep democracy ongoing nationwide, even in the backwoods of Arkansas. Apparently, the revolution will not be televised, or printed, in our state.

Recently North Little Rock joined Fayetteville and Eureka Springs in passing resolutions to support the Move to Amend movement, but there was not a whisper in this paper. About 300 cities and seven states have now passed these resolutions for a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Quite simply, the amendment would abolish the Supreme Court doctrines of corporate personhood and that money equals speech. This would not only undo Citizens United, which said corporate “persons” can spend unlimited sums in our campaigns, but might eliminate the army of paid corporate lobbyists in D.C. and much, much more. Democracy is still possible, especially if the Democrat-Gazette learns to smell.

Gosh, it’s a complete surprise that Abel didn’t win state office, isn’t it?  I have to admit, part of the reason I wanted to post this letter is so that I can post this picture of Abel.

This is an unedited jailhouse photo of Abel.  Abel (and remember, I am not making any of this up) decided to start his own religion, in which his followers used “magic” mushrooms (wink wink, nudge nudge) to get closer to God.  Apparently, Abel tried to get physically closer to God on his way to trial by not only partaking of his religion’s basic tenets, but by also climbing a tree.  Unfortunately burdened by his clothes, he decided to lighten himself a little bit so that he could bask in God’s glorious light.  The police had to eventually physically pull him out of the tree after he fell partially out of it. 

Granted, this letter doesn’t have the obvious mouth-frothing lunacy of other letters that we’ll see, but it does serve the purpose of learning the lesson of knowing what you are talking about before spouting off. 

The problem with Abel’s position is that the Citizens United case did not, in any way, establish the doctrine of corporate personhood.  That doctrine had already been established in the case of Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad in 1886.  Don’t believe me?  How about Chief Justice Morrison Waite, who stated flatly:
The court does not wish to hear argument on the question whether the provision in the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which forbids a State to deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws, applies to these corporations.  We are all of the opinion that it does.  [emphasis mine]

Still not convinced?  How about from Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary of Law, which summarizes a number of important cases in the back of the book.   This decision is summarized thusly:

“[D]efined corporations as ’persons’ who are entitled to the same equal protection rights as individuals.  While falling short of conferring citizen status on corporate entities, the Court nevertheless declared that such entities are constitutionally guaranteed the right to liberty, property, and due process of the law and for legal purposes may be regarded as persons.”


If you think about it, common sense tells us that corporations must be considered as a person.  Otherwise, there would be no way to tax them.  Why should one class of people have a different tax rate than others? 

They would also be exempt from constitutional burdens, such as slavery and property.  Anyone could create a business and deny any of its workers any kind of constitutional protections.

Corporate personhood also prevents the government from performing unreasonable searches or seizing property by reason of eminent domain. 

The question that I’ve never seen answered is, “Why do liberals, who say that they have fought for free speech for everyone, not want free speech for businesses?”   

This next letter is from Caryl Feck of Bella Vista, and contains one of the greatest laugh-out-loud lines I’ve come across in quite a while. 

I am a political junkie and listen to all the television stations and all their opinions that they like to try to convince us are fact.

Now that the conventions are over, my biggest concern is that with all the money that is behind Mitt Romney, who I believe is a just man, it will be the downfall to a true election. We have no way of knowing where all the money is coming from. It can be foreign money that will make a puppet out of the candidate if elected. Then where will our freedom be?

Are we better off now than we were four years ago? As a nation I have to say a loud “yes” because now when we end our pledge of allegiance with “and justice for all,” we can say it with more truth than ever before.

I am an independent voter, but given these two important thoughts, it looks as if I have made my choice. But, I will listen to the debates with an open mind. I hope you all will, too.

No, I’m not making this up. 

So, because somebody can now say “and justice for all” and mean it, that means we are better off now than we were four years ago?   What if they don’t mean it when they say “…and justice for all”?  What if someone from a hundred years ago who fully supported slavery recited that part?  Does that mean that we were better off one hundred years ago than we are now? 

One wonders how Caryl was able to make it through the Pledge of Allegiance in years past.  One can only imagine the psychic trauma that happened to Ms. Feck whenever she was forced to perform the Pledge.  How she must have had to choke out the words “…and justice for all”.  What a horrible existence.

This next letter is from one of my favorite letter writers, Richard “Sniveling Dick” Snively of Fayetteville. 

Comparing Mitt Romney to President Barack Obama, it seems one believes the glass is half empty and the other believes it is half full.

Romney is a man who collects $20-plus million every year from profit on his $250 million fortune and pays a lower income-tax rate than many earning $50,000 or less. He seems to be out of touch with our working class and their income stagnation.

Of course he is a self-made one per-center who made his wealth all by himself. Never mind his father’s seed money and influence, as well as the many government services he uses. No man is an island.

Romney complains how bad our economic condition is and blames it on Obama, who inherited most of it. Is Romney politically trustworthy, with his flip-flopping, truth-stretching negativism, taking nearly everything Obama says out of context?

Obama was right. Most of the private sector is doing well economically, especially the one per-centers. Ninety percent of our citizens have jobs. I understand that those who are out of work are struggling, but those with jobs are living a standard that is probably better than what most of the world’s people have.

I believe if it were not for some of our greedy, unpatriotic corporations sending jobs overseas, our unemployment rate would be much lower. Whirlpool’s outsourcing is an example. Wal-Mart’s slogan, save money, live better, is hollow to those without earned income. It is difficult to find and purchase goods manufactured in the U.S.A.

There are so many face-palmingly stupid statements here, that it would fill this entire page debunking all of them.  I could write an entire essay on the concept of “no man is an island” idiocy alone.  (If no man truly is an island, why the concern about the one-percenters, then?  Sniveling Dick snivels about the one percenters, then turns around and states that the private sector is doing well, .  Huh?)  What I want to focus on is Sniveling Dick’s question, is Romney politically trustworthy?

That’s a question that doesn’t have an easy “yes/no” answer.  Romney can certainly be criticized for his previous flip-flops that he has committed in the nomination campaign and even stretching back to his stint as governor of the state of Massachusetts.  There’s a lot about his campaign promises that make me uneasy.  Comparing him to the opposition and saying, “Well, he’s better than Obama”, doesn’t make that uneasiness go away or even justify voting for Romney. 

I think that the answer lies in the concept that Romney’s campaign can be thought of as being a new entity.  I think Romney realizes that he is not going to be President without the full support of conservatives, even against such a weak candidate as Obama.  With the addition of Paul Ryan and a number of various other things that I’ve observed from the campaign, it seems that Romney is taking conservatism seriously.  So I feel rather good about voting for him, but I’m still going to keep an eye on him.

This next letter is from Jim Rawlins of Bigelow. 

It took me a while, but I finally figured out what the slogan “We want our country back” means. It seems to mean that those who say it want the country to go back to the way it was before Barack Obama became president. Well, here are a few of the changes that have happened in those nearly four years. Federal, state and local governments are smaller, with fewer employees. Domestic gas and oil production is at an historically high rate. About 92 percent of Americans are working, and employment numbers have gone up every month for the last 30 months. The stock market is higher now than at any time in the past five years.

The rich have grown richer. Taxes were lowered for the middle class. GM, Ford and Chrysler, on life support four years ago, are alive, strong and thriving today.

Thousands of people now have health insurance which cannot be revoked if they get sick. And even Mitt Romney wants to keep the good parts of Obamacare.

The U.S. war in Iraq has ended. Osama bin Laden is dead. We now have a president who thinks before he acts and does not act out of paranoia as George W. Bush did or out of rage as Mitt Romney proposes.

Now I’m trying to figure out why anyone would want our country to go back to those conditions.

Wow!  I sure wish I lived in the America Jim lives in.  Unfortunately, I’m stuck here in this one. 

This next letter is from J. W. Dillree of Hot Springs Village. 

It is alarmingly clear to me how radical the Republican Party has become.

For example, the statement Mitt Romney made at a political money raising event that he thinks 47 percent of U.S. citizens are not responsible people and that he is writing them off as just victims who will vote for the president no matter what. This is very revealing as to the disdain apparently felt by many in the GOP toward those who are living on Social Security and who depend on Medicare, as well as those who are not fortunate to have been born to wealth and privilege.

A Republican congressman from Florida, in defense of Romney on Fox News, quoted Alexis de Tocqueville, essentially saying that a democracy like the U.S. is destined to become a dictatorship because the people will always vote to enrich themselves from the treasury and thus bankrupt the country.

So, given that several Republican-dominated state legislatures across the country have recently voted to institute very discriminatory voter-ID laws that will make it very difficult, if not impossible, for many of the “47 percent” to cast a ballot, are we to understand that the “party of Lincoln” sees democracy as a dangerous institution that needs to be ended?

I didn’t know that carrying an ID was discriminatory.  How J.W. came to the conclusion that the G.O.P. wants to end democracy will probably remain an unsolvable mystery. 

The next letter is from Elizabeth K. Harris of Evening Shade, which is notable for being the name of a sitcom with Burt Reynolds in it.

I can climb past the Richie Rich stuff and the prayer undies and golden-plates stuff, but what I’m still waiting for is for Mitt Romney to openly disavow, disinherit and discredit the shrieking fantasists out there in radio land.

Until I hear the man say that folks similar to or actually named Rusty, Michael, Glenn or Rushbo are verging on sedition and are inciting their listeners to commit (fill in the violent crime of your choice here) and should be shunned-until that happy day, I’m voting the strict vegetarian ticket this year.

If Romney, by his tacit acceptance through his silence, needs the votes of the tinfoil-hat brigadiers that badly, well, he’s not smart enough to be my president.

’Nuf sed?

Yes, Ms. Harris (and you just know that Ms. Harris pronounces that “Miz“, as in “Miz-erable old cow), you’ve said quite enough.  I wonder, though, Ms. Harris, if you hold President Obama to those same standards.  I don’t seem to recall Obama denouncing any of the shrill voices on the left.  As a matter of fact, I seem to recall Obama accepting monetary donations from the likes of Bill Maher, Steven Colbert, Jon Stewart, Malik Shabazz, Reverend Wright, and quite a few others of that ilk. 

Must be an oversight.  Yes, I’m sure that’s what it is.

This next letter is from Robert Hymer of Little Rock 

In clear dialectical terms, President Barack Obama has survived the onslaught of the Republican party leadership. Please recall the public announcements. The only policy left at the beginning of Obama’s first term: Do anything to make Obama fail; to hell with the business of the United States.

With that truth in mind, Obama steered the country clear of a second depression, struggled with unemployment over 8 percent, wound down two wars, sent bombers to Libya, ordered the death of Osama bin Laden, rewrote banking rules and pushed through the largest new entitlement program since 1965.

Conversely, Willard Mitt Romney disposed of 47 percent of the American people in fundraising among his peers, some very rich people with the country’s population reaching pi times 100 million on August 14. How many citizens does that constitute?

As I write this, our current population is 314,162,406. So, 47 percent would be 147,656,331. In that case, Romney would need 90 percentplus of what’s left to win the election, which is rationally impossible.

Gee, I don’t know, Robert.  I don’t seem to recall Democrats in 2000 saying that they were going to work together with President Bush to get his agenda done.  Maybe you could remind me of when that happened?

Another one of my favorites, Al “Nut” Case of Enola, is next. 

All those who do not perceive religion as a major stumbling block to world peace have not been paying attention. One needs only to scan the pages of any daily newspaper to view the carnage created by Islamic fanaticism and the persistent violation of international law by the state of Israel.

A vast majority of fundamentalists, both Christian and Jewish, have remained silent about the inhumane policies being carried out by Israel, and are often directly complicit in their implementation. Even our politicians act like trained poodles jumping through the hoop held by Israel’s powerful lobby when it concerns our Middle East policy.

The fundamentalists who accept Israel as their religion feel compelled to defend it from all criticism. They are driven by religious conviction, embracing a towering myth hatched in the minds of Bronze Age semi-barbaric tribesmen. The influence those fundamentalists hold over our national and foreign policies is of great concern, as power and ignorance are a dangerous combination.

In every religion there is a lunatic fringe who take its myths way too seriously. They interpret their holy books as it suits them, and, feeling their barbaric urges, think heaven is on the line, and in their hysteria, proceed to create hell on Earth.

The world is burdened by a variety of faiths, all holding each other in infinite contempt, making rational discourse impossible. Religion is a detriment to civilization and the greatest threat to mankind’s continued existence.

Before you ask, yes, this letter is typical of what Nutcase Al usually writes.  On the one hand, there is the hatred and loathing that Nutcase Al brings toward any religion not his own.  This, of course, prevents “rational discourse” from taking place among the people of the world. 

Then, there is assertion that power and ignorance (other people’s ignorance, of course; never Nutcase Al’s own) are a dangerous combination.  A few lines later, we have Nutcase Al saying that religion is the greatest threat to mankind’s continued existence.  So, apparently, religion is the biggest threat, followed closely by the combination of power and ignorance.  Greed, jealousy, fear, competition - none of these have anything on religion or powerance (power and ignorance).  The great philosophers were all wrong; Nutcase Al has identified the true enemies of all mankind. 

And finally, a letter to the editor from my old pal, Gene Lyons of Houston.  Gene used to have a weekly column in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, but was let go a year or two ago to make room for the returning John Brummett.  While Brummett is a little bit more sane than Gene (which, admittedly, isn’t that much of a bar to jump over), the liberal codswallop is spread out 4 times a week instead of just once. 

I got so tired of Gene’s weekly incessant lying, that I just took to fisking it every week.  There’s only so many times that you can swat at the annoying ly fly before it just gets repetitious, though, so I gave it up.  But maybe Gene can write a monthly letter to the editor that I can fisk. 

Recently, Paul Greenberg denounced the BBC for rejecting the idea of erecting a statue of George Orwell in front of its headquarters on the grounds that the esteemed author was “too left-wing.”

According to Greenberg, the author of Homage to Catalonia, Animal Farm and 1984 exhibited a “Tory sensibility” that apparently BBC bureaucrats were too dull to recognize.

Sorry, but this is nonsense. Satire like 1984 is inherently ambiguous. However, to the end of his life Orwell resisted being lionized by conservatives.

Shortly before his death in 1949, Orwell wrote to an official of the United Auto Workers here in the United States about this exact issue:

“My recent novel [1984] is not intended as an attack on socialism or the British Labor Party (of which I am a supporter),” he insisted, “but as a show-up of the perversions to which a centralized economy is liable and which have already been partly realized in Communism and fascism . . . The scene of the book is laid in Britain in order to emphasize that the English speaking races are not innately better than anyone else, and that totalitarianism, if not fought against, could triumph anywhere.”

It’s never clear if Greenberg’s attempts to recruit Orwell into the Republican Party are the result of ignorance or wishful thinking.

That they are historically inaccurate, however, is beyond dispute.

I would fisk this myself, but I found a quote that works just as well as anything that I could put up, so I’ll use it instead.

Hmm, breakdown of home and family ties?  The eradication of religion being replaced by secular cult worship?  The manipulation of language and history to suit an agenda?  The deliberate economic strangulation of the population?  Gosh, that doesn’t sound familiar at all.

Without Hope You’re Hopeless

Listening to the lies of the politicians as presented by the prattle of the biased it is easy to lose hope in a secular sense.  My hope in an eternal sense is founded on the rock of an unshakable faith in Jesus, and so it cannot be shaken.  However, in the secular resting, as it must upon the shifting sands of man in America today, hope as a measured commodity is all too often hopeless.  Seeking for hope in current events, a diamond among the discards and a point of light in a sea of darkness, is seeking something positive among the gathering gloom of an empire in eclipse.

I don’t know about you, but I cannot focus on the negative trends of our current situation for long without at least contemplating depression and I don’t mean the economic kind.  I am thankful I have a peace that passes all understanding and a hope that cannot be taken away, and I am also glad that I have a sense of History which gives me a context to frame the Now.  For if all we have is the Now it can always be changed with the next headline, the next news bulletin, or the next press release.  Having a historical context brings things into focus fitting the events of today into flow of time from yesterday to tomorrow.

Truth often becomes the victim of expediency.  For what seems true at the moment may end up as the lie of the hour.  Politicians bend truth like gravity bends light: the heavier the perceived need the greater the unperceived distortion.  Lies can become so widely believed that truth is swallowed in truism. Lies become the accepted wisdom of professional pundits chattering endlessly, supporting that which ultimately must fall for those who seek to surf a tsunami into a safe harbor.  The news is filled with half-truths and as my second favorite philosopher, Anonymous, once said, “Beware of half-truths, you may have gotten the wrong half.”

We live in a twilight time.  Twilight by definition is a time when two sources of light pierce the gloom. It is that quivering moment when both the sun and the moon hold back the darkness.  The darkness of confusion is dispelled by the brightness of the sun of truth, but it is disputed by refracted light of the moon of opinion masquerading as truth.

Casting about for something solid in the midst of the swirling fog of conflicting facts, shifting observations, and contradictory visions in the secular sense I must focus on one thing: the people.  I trust the American people.  I trust them to make the right choice when presented with unvarnished reality.  I trust them to do what must be done to preserve the bequest of our forefathers for the inheritance of our posterity.

The Declaration of Independence was written to proclaim the righteousness of the actions of “One people” with the courage to declare to a world sold into bondage that our liberty was founded upon truth. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

We the People wrote the Constitution in order to perfect that which had been founded upon the truth.  “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

It is to this one people, this “We the people” that I look for secular hope, political peace, and the eventual solution to our current cultural conundrum. The popular definition of a conundrum is a problem without a solution.  However it also has another meaning: a riddle whose answer is or involves a pun.  Since I am referring to the second meaning I will present the riddle, “How is liberalism the solution to the problem of liberalism?”

In our through-the-looking-glass world, politicians use actual truth to obscure the obvious truth.  Congressman Joe Early (D-Mass) at a press conference to answer questions about the House Bank scandal said, “They gave me a book of checks. They didn't ask for any deposits.”  While I’m sure it is true he was given a book of checks, obviously one needs to make deposits if one is to honestly write checks.  In this same manner the leaders of our free country promote socialism as the solution to the problems socialism has caused knowing that you cannot honestly write checks if you don’t make deposits.  Capitalism makes the deposits and socialism wants to write the checks.  As Churchill said “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

We are awash in polls.  Every campaign and every major news source constantly trumpet polls many of which contradict each other.  No matter what the polls say I believe that the American people still believe in freedom.  I believe they still believe in the equality of opportunity and the opportunity of equality.  We all aren’t the same.  Each of us is born with a particular set of talents and each of us uses those talents in a certain way.  It is my belief, that given the level playing field of individual liberty and economic freedom, the vast majority of Americans will work hard to earn what they deserve.  This is my secular hope. Heaven on earth is not possible but given individual liberty and economic freedom inherently promised in the perfect union we the people sought to create we can at least avoid remaining in the hell of socialism the Progressives are currently foisting upon us, as Churchill also said “If you're going through hell, keep going.”

Oh, by the way, the answer to the riddle is that Classical Liberalism promotes the general welfare by promoting the limitation of government and the liberty of the individual in order to better serve the whole. Welfare Liberalism erodes the general welfare by expanding the government at the expense of the individual in order to better serve the individual.  Thus Classical Liberalism is the solution to the problems caused by Welfare Liberalism.  And that’s the truth which brings me to one last Churchill quote for the day, “The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. Ignorance may deride it. But in the end, there it is.”

Hope and change may have convinced our fellow citizens to sell their birthright of freedom for the savory red stew of give me more; however, November is coming and things may change. At least we can hope.  For without hope we are hopeless and we are a hopeful people.

Don’t be discouraged by the blather of the pontificating politicians or confused by the conflicting ruminations of the professional talkers. When all is said and done we can trust us.  We the people will eventually come down on the side of truth, justice, and the American way.

YouTube Service Error, October 14, 2012 has gone down thanks to Felix Baumgartner's historic jump from space.

YouTube hosted Mr. Baumgartner's jump live and was sponsored by Red Bull. At its height, there were more than 7.5 Million people watching the same video at once.

When Mr. Baumgartner was about to touch down after a successful jump, the site began to experience problems. A few minutes after, the entire website was having a server error, leading people to receive this message when they try to go to YouTube:

Medal of Honor Warfighter Countdown

After an insanely long absence from playing video games, I excitedly bought an X-box 360 earlier this year to jump back into the fray, and bought - what better for a war enthusiast such as myself - the recent Medal of Honor restart to test my new found gaming interests... And almost a year and dozens of games later, I'm hooked.

Which is why I am almost giddy with excitement to purchase and play the soon to be released Medal of Honor Warfighter on October 23rd, because although I find excitement out of fighting the Covenant and killing ten million Russians in Modern Warfare, I feel a different gaming experience when I'm playing out today's battles... And this game will be no different.

Medal of Honor Warfighter will follow Tier-1 Operators in the global War on Terror as a new threat is discovered and you must, literally, traverse the globe to track down and defeat our enemies before it's game over. And you will do so with the help of an old friend from the last Medal of Honor release - Preacher - our heroic Navy SEAL who fought against incredible odds in the Hindu Kush to unsuccessfully rescue his comrade Rabbit.

As you can probably tell, I'm psyched out as hell for this game to be finally released, and will most likely buy a copy shortly after midnight in two Tuesday's (the joy of working at Wal-Mart), alongside two two-liters of Coca Cola and a bag of chips, and spend the entire night taking the fight to fanatical jihadists until I claim my victory, or die trying...

What say you - anyone else out there ready to burn the midnight oil on October 23rd with an good 'ole fashioned ass whooping for the latest scum in Medal of Honor? I most certainly am...

Turkey-Syria Closer to Conflict

I may not be the most well versed in military strategy, but the latest movements by Turkey indicate we might be watching the beginning stretches of a wider, bloodier Arab conflict emerge out of Syria, which has been embroiled in civil war for the past nineteen months between rebels and regime loyalists.

Among the reasons I expect the conflict to escalate is Turkey's massive build up of thousands of soldiers, of dozens of planes and tons of equipment to the hostile border region they share with Syria. Add to that their Chief of Staff, General Ozel just threatened greater force if cross-border shelling continues, and NATO told the world they have Turkey's back, and we have a situation ripe for war.

Oh, and not to mention, but the United States Military has been on the ground monitoring the situation with the Jordanians since May. Helping our allies watch for chemical and biological weaponry possessed by al-Assad's forces, deal with the over two hundred thousand refugees that have flooded across the border and help set up a headquarters in Annan.

Now you see why I expect greater conflict?

Syria keeps poking the Turkish military in its side, and that course of action has failed miserably - as they've prompted the Turks to build up along the border, threatening war, while their allies in NATO reassure them of their support and the United States is only a few hundred miles away monitoring the entire situation. It's a matter of time before someone fires off the wrong rocket that triggers it...

Because the entire country just found out,

Used to be his empty headed grin showed up

No one in the country, or world, has ever been
that over-exposed.  Only someone with an ego
as big as the sky and a brain the size of a grain
of sand would ever allow that to happen.

He is so insecure he cannot bear the thought of
someone, somewhere in the world waking up
without seeing his ugly mug a hundred times a

2. He is the most insufficient man ever to hold
the office of president.

This guy makes Jimmy Carter look like a
rocket scientist, oh, wait, he was, wasn't he?

Not only does Barry have no credentials, he
has no education, no job experience, no real
life experience, no spiritual foundation, no
moral underpinnings, he ascended to the
presidency with nothing but a hot cup of
Jack Squat, to quote Chris Farley, who could
have done a much better job.

He, because of his insecurity, has insured that
no one will ever be able to dig up just how deep
his insufficiency goes.

He is nothing, has nothing, and his delivery last
week on worldwide television revealed just that -

3. He is insane.  Remember the definition of
insanity?  Same thing, over and over again,
expecting different results? 

That is Barry, second verse, same as the first.

He should change his name this time to Barry
Obscure, because that is where he is bound,
to nowhere-nobody-no-one-cares-ville.

Until Romney's landslide victory next month,
we'll just have to put up with his grinning mug,
empty lies and taxpayer funded expensive

Looking Foward to Post-Election Finances

It's coming close to election time once again, and as such numerous propositions and proposals are on the ballot. But what will California look like if some of these propositions are passed? Just what can the average tax payer expect if any let alone all of the propositions on the ballot get through?

Most of the ballots involving taxes or redistributing money have openly stated where the money made from there will be going. Of the three major tax propositions proposed, that is Proposition 39 (Income Tax Increase for Multi-state Businesses), Proposition 38 (State Income Increase to Support Education) and Proposition 30 (Sales and Income Tax Increase), only Proposition 30 has not specified where at least half of the money made from it will go. Of these propositions Proposition 39 California has been embraced especially, as it targets big businesses with holdings out of state while contributing half of the estimated one billion dollars it gets annually from the change to green energy. 

Proposition 38 has gathered less attention, but still estimates ten billion dollars annually almost all of which will be invested in education. If the propositions go through green energy will be even faster on the track of becoming the norm, schools will be much better funded and numerous green energy related jobs will become available.

However, there is a downside to all of this. In all of the propositions proposed, only Proposition 33 (Automobile Insurance Persistency Discounts) promotes any form of financial break for the tax payer. Even then, it is merely to allow third party agencies to permit discounts in very specific situations. All of the above propositions are taxes that could seriously cut into the Californian citizens pocket. Even though Proposition 39 is the only proposition that doesn't directly cut into the average tax payers salary, it could still have detrimental effects. Many people believe that the increased tax rates to big businesses will make many flee the state, causing a large loss of jobs.

In the end, it's clear that the propositions on this ballot are not made with cutting taxes or helping people match the rising cost of living in mind. Rather they have all been made with increasing the infrastructure of the state in mind. This is not necessarily a bad thing. After all schools deserve funds and green energy is worth investing in. But it is something to keep closely in mind.
