Hillary Clinton called to testify before Benghazi committee

Hillary-Clinton1-300x225This should be very interesting.

On Thursday, Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy sent a letter to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s personal counsel, David Kendall, setting a timeframe for Clinton to appear before the committee twice—the first to answer questions regarding the completeness of her public record and the second to answer questions on the substance of the Benghazi terrorist attacks.

“With her cooperation and that of the State Department and administration, Secretary Clinton could be done with the Benghazi Committee before the Fourth of July.

“It is necessary to call Secretary Clinton twice because the committee needs to ensure we have a complete and responsive record and all the facts before we then substantively question her on the Benghazi terrorist attacks.

“From there, as I have said countless times before, the committee investigation will go wherever the facts may lead. I have made no presumption of right or wrongdoing on anyone’s part with respects to the Benghazi terrorist attacks,” Gowdy said.

Gowdy noted that the House Resolution that established the Select Benghazi Committee gave the committee purview to examine all aspects of State Department’s compliance with previous Benghazi investigations, which now includes State’s failure for two years to notify any of the previous investigative committees it did not have possession or control of Clinton’s email public records.

“If the committee had called the former secretary when Mr. Cummings and Mr. Kendall first invited us to, the committee would not have had possession of the 300 emails we now have or known about her exclusive use of a personal server and email account to conduct official business.

“Unlike previous investigations, this committee uncovered Clinton’s use of personal email to conduct official business and is now in possession of thousands of pages of documents from the ARB review and other documents no other committee has had access to. The committee also is continuing to interview eyewitnesses to the Benghazi terrorist attacks no other committee has spoken to.

“This is evidence of the thoroughness and relentlessness of the committee to build a complete, comprehensive and responsive record of the before, during and after of the Benghazi terrorist attacks,” Gowdy said.

Gowdy also said, “we appreciate Secretary Clinton’s willingness to cooperate so the committee can move as expeditiously as possible to conclude the investigation.”
