NAACP Holding Rally to Protest Voter ID Laws; Photo IDs Required to Attend

The NAACP will be holding a march to protest voter ID laws. In order to attend, all members are required to bring along a photo ID.

In a flier entitled "Important Dos and Don'ts for Marchers!!!," the NAACP state at the top that all protesters conduct themselves "in accordance with the historic custom of the Civil Rights Movement." They should also listen to their "marshals at all times" and follow the "Dos" and "Don'ts" underneath the opening paragraph. More hypocrisy is in store, like a chief SAFE Act ally being arrested for carrying a loaded gun into an elementary school.

Some of the Dos are sensible for any rally, such as, "look out for the elderly and the young" and "wear a hat and very comfortable shoes" (emphasis theirs).

Then there are ones that are common sense that you wouldn't expect to have to tell people, such as "DO NOT intimidate, threaten, ostracize or degrade anyone," and do not threaten commuters.

In the middle of the list, however, is a drastically ironic "Do." To go to the rally, you are asked to have "photo identification (driver's license, passport or other valid photo id) with you and keep it on your person at all times."

Remember, this is a protest against needing a photo ID to take part in a fundamental responsibility of Americans... but to go to that protest, you are supposed to have an ID.

The last piece of advice that the flier gives is "Remember the ABC's: Always Be Cool!!!!!"

  1. This is but one of millions of examples of just how STUPID certain things have gotten. If your in a position of stature, with a considerable amount of responsibility and you agree to this embarrassment, you seriously need to reevaluate whether you would prefer to impress people, and influence people, or cause people to wonder what idiots are responsible for this crap.

  2. I've seen this posted several times by people who either don't know, don't understand, or don't care to either know or understand, history;

Bringing photo identification is for in the event of arrest; it's been mandatory for decades, because law enforcement would deny that they'd taken someone in custody, and the person (usually a man of colour) would disappear. Yes, this really has happened, and in our country. So, keep the list in context; see where it says 'don't engage in arguing or threatening' (interesting that the rest is cropped off) .... it's to minimise the probability of attorneys calling to bail clients out and the police denying that the person is in custody.

  3. Ha ha, snark snark. You are really going to be a big hit down at Bubba's tonight! Pointing out the phony irony of having to carry ID to a protest against voter ID, but knowing that despite peacful actions, arrests are inevitable at a NAACP protest. Who gets arrested when voting? You have to do a lot better than that. Are you a seriuos blogger or just some overheated racist with access to a PC at your local library?

  4. Seems pretty logical. How any American could be against showing photo id to vote in this country is unamerican. Why would you want to risk the rigt of having say in our laws by allowing voting fraud to take place. No country that has a democracy would allow non citizens to have a say in their laws. I'll even go one step further and say that all voting should be in English only. If you don't understand our laws, you should have no say. It is a privilege to vote, a privilege that is being abused and taken for granted. This is not about race and it's sad that the NAACP has turned it into racism. Shame on them and what they "so called" stand for. Quit flattering youself to make it about you and racism. This is an issue about being American, not about color. It's sad that the NAACP keeps stirring up race issues, when it has nothing to do with race. Are you black, white, Hispanic or American. If you live in this country the answer should be American! !!!

  5. If you follow the do not's listed in this post above as a protester then their is no reason to have ID on you. You do not need to show a police officer ID if you have done nothing wrong. You have the right to not answer or talk to any police officer if you are not in suspicion of committing a crime. There is absolutely no reason to have ID on you if you are not driving a vehicle.

  6. Cheryl Butler-Adams Wow I can't believe the author of this article doesn't know the first thing about civil disobedience. This isn't an oxymoron but it is a bit of common sense. Why you are a protestor you could possibly be subject to arrest, upon arrest the first thing you will be asked for is ID. And in fact it might be illegal to not have ID on you. So really the NAACP is preparing the protestors for arrest and don't wont to prolong the booking process....protestors usually are cited and released.

  7. You're required to bring along a photo ID in exactly the same way a few bullets later you're required to wear a hat.

As MWII already pointed out, it's a practical guideline -- not something that's required by the organizers, but a very sensible rule for any event in which you may have some interaction with authorities.

  8. Seriously? you do not see the irony of being instructed to bring a photo ID to a rally that is protesting the Photo ID requirement for voting?
The entire point of the rally is to convince other people that poor little underprivileged black people just can not get a photo ID and it is too much trouble for them to have to get one.
Well if they have one to go to a rally, what is their whiny little excuse now?!

  9. THE ANTI-VOTER ID MOVEMENT is about one thing only: Allowing illegal immigrants to vote, and they usually vote for Democrats. THE BIGGEST IRONY: The Black unemployment numbers would be better if there were less illegal immigrants taking their jobs away.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Carrying photo ID in case you're arrested is wise, but it's just a common sense thing for everyone to do at all times for many reasons. But what really reveals the hypocrisy of the anti-Voter ID people is this: They NEVER protest against photo ID being required to purchase guns, tobacco or alcohol. They NEVER protest against a photo drivers license. And on and on and so on. IF, as they falsely claim, obtaining a photo ID puts an unfair burden on people of "colour" (are you Canadian?), then it is equally unfair for poor white folks -- and therefore not racist. As for your claim that a Black person might be arrested "and the person (usually a man of colour) would disappear," well, that's not what happens in the United States. You say in happens in "our country," but you don't say which country. Judging from your spelling of "color" as "colour" I'd guess you are not an American and not in the U.S. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but you should limit your comments to things you understand.

    ReplyDelete
  11. In the 21st Century, in a day of cell phone cameras, drone and fixed camera surveillance everywhere, no one is going to 'disappear' in the USA. Besides, any law enforcement intent on making some person disappear would have no hesitation to remove his or her identification and burn it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. SO? Is this happening in today's march. No. So? Why have this on the list? Voter fraud is happening but are we going to have ID checks for that? Or rather shouldn't we have ID's to stop the voter fraud that is happening?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Can you list examples of the police murdering "men of color" and them denying they were ever in custody? Bonus points if you can cite such an example from the last twenty years. Btw, if the police wanted to murder a protester, couldn't they just arrest and murder someone and then get rid of their driver's license? I'm calling shenanigans on your while post.

  14. Yes. Google: Naples, FL deputy Steve Caulkins. 2 missing men Terrence Williams. Santos.

  15. Hey you right wing dummies. NOWHERE does it state that the ID has to BE PRESENTED. It is in case of arrest. DUH AND DOUBLE DUH. Sometimes I am shocked at the narrow train of your thought processes. Are you stupid or something?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Are YOU stupid? Everyone knows that, but it doesn't take away from the IRONY of the situation. Look up irony, we'll wait.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Photo ID is important enough for you in case of arrest, but not important enough to cast a vote for the most powerful man/woman in the world? Isn't it amazing that only the liberals want to make it easier to commit voter fraud - but be prepared with proper identification in case you get arrested. Your momma must be proud!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sorry, but buying guns, alcohol, or tobacco are ways to kill yourself or others. Voting is not. What a completely asinine argument.
How many amendments were passed protecting your freedom to BUY (not BEAR) a gun, alcohol, or tobacco? NONE.
How many amendments to the Constitution were passed to define how we allow citizens the right to vote that is? Let's see, 14, 15, 19, 23, and 24.
    Another fine historical perspective.
Your argument against "colour" being foreign is even worse, when a simple click over to the poster's linked Facebook page would show she is at least IN in United States, so she probably has an understanding of her comments, likely a little more than you. I suppose that's what happens to "UFO-curious" conspiracy theorists though. Anyone who disagrees is an alien.

  19. John, you speak like a true D-bagger.

  21. Hey, Hilla....What is more racist, prejudiced against blacks or prejudiced against southern whites as in your Bubba' statement. What if you were unlucky enough to be born in a southern, white poor county of say, Kentucky ? would it bother you if someone called you Bubba? I think you'd better sit down and take a deep inventory of yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Don't you know you can not have a rational discussion with someone who refuses to listen to logical rational reasoning. ID is required in a lot of cities in the US, therefore if arrest area dr you have to have it. BUT the irony is the protesting requiring them for a Priveledge. But are required to carry one to protest not carrying one. Your a fool of you don't see the irony. And want to cry say LEO gonna take someone out of the middle of a crowd and make him disappear no boy since the 60s.

  23. When the people of Iraq got there first chance to vote after a viscous period under Saddam Hussein, people had to walk miles to a polling station and then dip there thumb in ink to prevent fraud, they also took there lives into there hands since some of the terror organizations there didn't want a democracy. Fraud in black precincts is rampant, I know I have seen it with my own eyes. A politician from New Jersey who was retiring stated at his retirement party "when I die I want to be buried in Camden county so I can continue to vote" Voter ID is designed to prevent a small group of people dictating to the masses who there elected leader is. If there is someone inconvenienced by the law then help them get there ID. If you have time and the resources to go to a demonstration then you have time to help a person in need get the ID they need in order to vote.

  24. I'm sorry, stop using the word coloured and state what you really mean, either minority or anyone that is non-white. Being a first generation immigrant lets me see how ignorant both sides are. Do you really think other countries don't require valid identification when voting? It's not a pol tax if you can continue to use the issued identification for everything else. If you want, you should put your energy toward raising monies to help pay for the identification cards and get the less fortunate transportation to and from the DMV office.

    ReplyDelete
  25. we know why they don't want everyone to bring photo ids to vote.... it would mean the vote would be honest and what politician would want that

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, I guess they would have been OK, had they been carrying their drivers licenses.

    /sarc

One bad cop, even a murdering cop, does not make a systemic problem of black folks being disappeared.

No, if you want to talk about black folks being disappeared, consider the 23 million black babies who were aborted since Roe v. Wade became the law of the land. Voluntary genocide.

    ReplyDelete
  27. How ignorant. The ONLY reason not to have people identify themselves as a legal voter at the voting booth is to allow illegals to vote. Period. And who will illegal voters vote for? Those who they think will give them free stuff including citizenship. Who is that? Liberals. But that is how they operate. It doesn't matter if they cheat to win as long as they win.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, I suppose someone could (theoretically) be voted into office that wanted to destroy the country as it exists and turn it over to no-border, socialist, internationalist types. Wait a minute............

    ReplyDelete
  32. The purpose for having a photo ID at the march is to present to law enforcement personnel in case things get ugly. What this proves other than the presenter is who he/she claims to be is beyond me. But it makes an interesting point: In the course of shaping our government and the course of our nation, we are reasonably expected to honestly identify ourselves to authorities. A corollary is the effective exercise of our citizen responsibilities depends on the integrity of the body of citizens exercising their inherent powers. We are not a mob nation, we are a nation of shared powers. Sharing requires a vested interest. A vested interest should be demonstrable.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jared, don't you suppose that voting for people to take charge of the government's guns is potentially a way to kill oneself or others? Don't you suppose that financial ruin, for example, is destructive to life or liberty? The government is granted enough power to build up and destroy nations. In the U.S., elections are intended to hire or fire the people who direct the exercise of those powers. We The People are born with the power to check that power, even redirect it or stop it altogether. All these things I have no doubt you know. The effective exercise of our citizen responsibilities depends on the integrity of the body of citizens exercising their powers. We are not a mob nation. We are a nation of shared powers. Sharing requires a vested interest. A vested interest should be demonstrable.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I see the logic but what you must consider as well is that voter fraud has not been established. The motivation for the requirement is not to limit fraud but rather to limit voting by the very poor that have no need for a drivers license as they can't afford to drive. The only reason they would have to get picture ID would be to vote. That means spending money they don't have to travel to a place to get the id and produce documents they probably don't have to try to vote. We as a country decided a long time ago that we did not want a federal id system as a privacy issue. I am on the fence.

    ReplyDelete
  35. First: You imply that voting, since it is not even potentially life-threatening, should not be subject to the same restrictions as the purchase of guns, alcohol, and tobacco. Yet there are many activities that are not conceivably life-threatening but require you to show ID in order to engage in them. Examples: getting married, buying a house/renting an apartment, opening a bank account, applying for government benefits, renting a hotel room, adopting a pet. So your distinction about life-threatening activities does not hold.

Second: You imply that voting, as a constitutionally protected right, should not be subject to restrictions requiring participants to show ID. Another constitutional right is the right to peaceably assemble, explicitly mentioned in the First Amendment. In Raleigh, NC, where this rally is being held (and also in most other jurisdictions nationwide), it is a requirement for organizers of public events -- such as marches -- to show ID in order to register the event. If they don't get a permit, their march could be lawfully shut down by local police. And before you reply that the First Amendment only binds the federal government, remember that the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the First Amendment against states and local jurisdictions as well. So your implication that no federally-protected right is subject to ID requirements is incorrect.

  36. lol, Larry. Or you could be buried here in Cincinnati. We had at least 6 people here vote numberous times for dead people or the elder who couldn't make it out. It's pretty easy to vote for the dead when you work in a nursing home, because you get they're mail and YOU can fill out the forms without anyone knowing any different.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Your fellow Proglodytes are echoing your comment and stating that this is to prevent people from being "disappeared." If the nation is as repressive as you Progs claim then why not have photo ID all the time? If photo ID is good for protecting civil liberties then you should insist your fellow idiots protect their civil liberty to vote and not have their vote denied or altered. Find a new line of BS.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why bother to have voter registration at all? The claim of trying to keep anyone from voting is stupid... The ID should be required to keep it as honest as possible... Those that cannot afford $12 for a SIX year ID as a general rule aren't likely to be voting with much understanding of consequences of who they are voting for... In Texas there was a guy that used no photos of himself in his campaign material. He had his ideas and plans BUT photos of people that represented most of his constituents. He won... then when many voters found out he was white they started whining and bitching that they would not have voted for him had they known he was white... seems those people are the racists there... in other words voting done by those classes of people don't seem to be done based on issues but what the candidates look like....

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Larry, please learn the difference between "there" and "their". Otherwise you will continue to look like an ignoramous.

  40. Voting most certainly IS a way to kill yourself or others. Voting for Obama caused the deaths of four US citizens in Ben Ghazi; two border patrol agents (fast and furious); an unknown number of innocent Iraqi and Pakistani civilians via drone; and, if he has his ways, tens of millions of deaths due to global warming alarmism. Voting CAN kill. And particularly voting for DEMOCRATS can kill. So yeah, Jared, I think you ought to have to show a picture ID to vote. And even if I believed this BS that it's "inconvenient" to get a picture ID, I still don't give a damn. Hundreds of thousands of US soldiers DIED so you could have the right to vote. How "inconvenient" was that? And you can't be bothered to wait a couple hours in line at the DMV? Freedom wasn't meant for you.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kim, are you related to Larry? "...they're mail" means "...they are mail". The word is "numerous", no "b".

    ReplyDelete
  42. So, Jared, by you post if I am buying beer or wine I am trying to kill myself or others???????? I don't get ti . But I do get that everyone should show an I.D. to vote

    ReplyDelete
  43. They don't say it's a REQUIREMENT to attend the rally. I'm not NAACP supporter or against voter id laws but this is clearly an advisement that anyone going to this rally should have ID. And you should if there's a chance a police encounter could occur.

The Police can and will hold you until a definite id can be made. By having some form of picture Id with you you reduce the chance you will be held in jail in case of some police interaction.

Can we quit being so ready to pounce? We look like fools.

    ReplyDelete
  44. They, having to have ID's is not the problem, but for them to keep a liberal democrat in office they want it to apply to the illegal voters to keep the dems in office or they might not get their "entitlements" without all the illegal votes.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey Dan, learn the difference between STFU & WDGAF it will help you become more socially accepted. Your welcome. And try to fight the urge to tell me it's YOU'RE.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Please be aware that the issue being protested is not about photo I.D., but voter nullification by specifying I.D. other than the I.D. voters already possess, that is difficult or expensive to obtain. To get the I.D., you must first pay for other official documents, such as passport and birth certificate. Other photo cards, such as student I.D., non-driver licences, etc. are not accepted. Interestingly, this even includes security I.D. that identifies policemen, emergency workers, or even U.S. Senators.
One final point; where these new requirements are being enacted, proponents of the new laws have been unable to show that voter fraud exists. The *stated* aim is to discourage poor, minority, marginal voters.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Glad I'm not the only one here who noticed that! A "Do's and Don'ts" list is a list of general behavioral guidelines and sound advice, it is not a list of rules, regulations or requirements. The title of the article is misleading.

  49. The NAACP is a RACIST and HYPOCRITICAL organization that panders to the ultra-liberal left. They protest the need for use of a LEGAL photo ID to vote, yet require a valid photo ID to participate in the protest. The only reason that the NAACP is against the use of LEGAL photo ID to vote is to ENABLE illegal immigrants and non-citizens to abuse US voting laws to ensure DIMWITSHIT control of the US governments and the continued socialization and degradation of the United States. It is time that the NAACP--and ALL organizations that represent--or claim to represent--a single demographic, ethnic group, religious group or "other" identified group (such as the LGBT community) be disbanded, and that includes groups in Congress such as the Congressional Black Caucus...!!!

  51. No. They are protesting having to provide ANY type of ID to vote. This is nothing more than an ongoing stunt by Leftists to allow people who are not citizens, have moved, are dead, or otherwise not eligible to vote, to be able to vote.

  52. You nailed it Jakee. The suggestion is for the protection of the person in question and is not a requirement, nor will compliance be checked. This is a non-issue.

  54. Bring your Photo ID to a rally against Photo IDs.

    ReplyDelete
  55. You need to pull your head from where the sun does not shine and see the truth. The poor and minorities? The ID is a drivers license and/or passports if you have them. Even a CHL is not accepted in most place as an ID except at the driver license Dept. of Public safety, ironic but true... :-) If they are here illegally then they need to get out and quit absorbing the US resources that they do not deserve. The very first thing that happens when they need food stamps and money or what ever they have to falsify documents to get them and then they do not have to prove a darn thing. Let an American citizen apply for the same benefits and see what they have to prove with all documentation. I am a voter and I always vote and have never had to produce more than my DL. So what special ID do you think they want? If it is a person that is obviously not an American they should have to show visa's and such as it should be!

  56. 57. Hmmm!!! Honesty in the same phrase as political! !!!!

  58. There is only one reason to protest Voter Photo ID and that is if you are supporting voter fraud whch is how the Democrat Party won the last election. It is incredible to think that people are actually buying in to this idea that Photo ID would suppress anything, much less voting. A Photo ID is required for anything and everything of consequence and only an ignorant person would not make that connection. The fact that the "news" media supports this opposition to it does not say much about their intelligence. I think that it is totally incredible that any person could be against this proving that you are legally entitled to vote by providing a Photo Voter ID.

  60. The aim, Jim, is to prevent those that are not citizens, from influencing outcomes.

So, instead of protesting the voter ID law, how about coming up with an inexpensive photo ID process? And, Jim, which citizens over the age of 18 don't have photo IDs? I would wager they likely have a cell phone, which would indicate that they could afford getting an ID.

You, Jim, are merely another brain-washed, lockstep, non-critical thinking liberal.

  61. Rosemary, the problem I have is its always been about race, it always will be! Its not right, but it is what it is. This only became an issue when an enormous amount of people of different race came out to vote. This topic on voting should have been an issue a long time ago. In the 1800s they took slaves, that were not even considered full human, according to the constitution and used their vote for political gain! This has gone on long ago. Its funny when some don't get their way that they now want to change the rules! These so called illegal immigrants, as some would refer them as is not only Hispanic, or other minorities. They are WHITE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AS WELL. I believe if you are here you should learn as the native tongue is spoke, but we are also blessed to have the beauty of the different cultures and languages they bring to America. They've been on the front lines of your arm forces fighting for the same freedoms you enjoy. Let's just stay consistent with the rules.... FOR EVERYONE, MAYBE THEN IT WON'T BE JUST ABOUT RACE AS SOME BELIEVE THE NAACP HAS BROUGHT TO THE TABLE. WE NEED THIS TYPE OF ORGANIZATION TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD BECAUSE IT NEVER STARTED OFF LEVEL. .. REMEMBER THAT!

  62. To date I have not heard from anyone who states that "Requiring an ID to Vote is racist" just exactly why it is racist.
I've always assumed that everyone who is of legal age to vote has an ID. If they do not then:
How do they drive a car?
How do they cash a paycheck; welfare check, etc?
How do they make any transaction at any bank, store, etc.?
How do you do anything in today's society with ID?

  64. Fact is, ID is very inexpensive. In fact it is FREE at the DMV to get an ID. As far as birth Cert? Those can also be obtained for a very nominal fee.
And to state that the "aim is to discourage poor, minority, marginal voters." is to say that these people are somehow Stupid, incompetent or just too moronic to obtain a common ID that most everyone over the age of 16 already possesses.
Getting an ID is not rocket science and yes it is inexpensive!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Why, if "in fact it might be illegal to not have ID on you", would you have a problem having "ID on you" on voting day?

Great Comment Leroy.I don't know if you've heard but about 3 days ago a 6 year old little black child in New Orleans was walking to school with his 7 or 8 year old sister A 22 year old black male driver , ran over the little boy and killed him. Well to add a insult to injury he didn't even stop he just kept on going. It barely made local news and I am sure it didn't make national news, but Trevon Martin is a household name. We have over 300 black on black murders here in the city and it makes local news like the watching the weather everyday. But when a white on black crime happens in New Orleans you would think it was the end of the world. It such a shame the NAACP does not help their own to even try and make a difference.
Some chapters or leaders I am sure represent the NAACP like it should be but here its all about the color of your skin.
My brother in law is black and my best friend is black and they even comment on how is all about racism. But I thought your comment was right on.

  74. I beg your pardon, but the political correct police are a lot too late on this one. The last time I had to renew my driver's license, the birth certificate that was issued when I was born, that had been registered with the state, and which I produced for my draft card, to get a job as a police officer, and to sign up for social security, was no longer any good. I had to, because of a federal mandate, get a "new" birth certificate. All they did was copy the info off of the original, transfer it to a cheap piece of crap with no official seal, and charge $20.00 for this "improvement". What really galled me was that Obama was elected president with no valid ID. I think that if you can not prove you are a citizen of the USA, and of the state where you reside, you should not be allowed to vote. The main complaint from the crowd that wants no ID is that it makes it much harder for the democrats that have been dead for years to vote. As for as poor minority voters not being able to afford to get ID, most of them are making more money than the middle class workers that are paying the way for the free loaders.

  75. Your final point is complete and utter bullsh*t.
Voter fraud has been proven and outlined over and over. By multiple agencies.
And the "stated" aim is to make sure only people who are authorized to vote actually get to vote and to limit them to only voting once.

Get a clue and use some common sense.

  76. Sorry, but I can't see any harm in being able to provide photo ID.

  78. But you can vote without an id....think that the whole point......it allows for voter fraud ...... So let's take a look at which side of the isle is against requiring ID to vote .... Mmmm?

  80. Terry, the problem with America is not entitlements. Our problem is politicians giving the rich huge tax cuts that bankrupt our country. If Reagan and Bush II had not given away the farm to the rich and increased corporate welfare, we would not be in the mess we are in today.

  81. Kirk - Over the last decade, throughout the United States, there have been exactly TEN documented cases of voter fraud by misrepresentation at the polling place - the ONLY type of voter fraud that requiring photo IDs at the polling place could possibly address. However, requiring photo IDs at polling places has proven VERY effective in reducing the number of young, poor, and minority voters. And you KNOW which party THOSE people tend to vote for. So why are Republicans changing voting laws again??

  82. You can get a state ID. An ID. An official, government issued ID. Not a driver's license, but an ID. It's for adults who do not have a driver's license or military ID or passport, etc. Also, you're an adult. It is your RESPONSIBILITY to have these documents, Jim, regardless of how much they cost.

  84. It was a simple do's and don't list. Where in that letter does it say you can't attend if you don't have ID. So guest if I don't wear a hat and comfortable shoes I can't attend either. Come on people just read whats on the paper and not add to it

  85. "The Police can and will hold you until a definite id can be made."

    This is factually incorrect.

No state requires the presentation of a physical ID.

Now, many states do require that upon a probable cause Terry Stop that you ID yourself, the easiest way is with a physical ID nowadays. HOWEVER, just as legal, and just as simple is telling the officer your name. This is you identifying yourself.

Without probable cause to believe you are lying they must trust that you are telling them the truth.

You are NEVER, in the confines of the US, ever required to have identification on you at all times. While we are getting there slowly, we are not yet to the point of having offers on the street randomly stopping people and asking for their "papers please".

Is the officer going to give you grief, yes, can he do anything about it. No.

  87. What's being added? When you meet at the rally you are expected to register. When you register you have to show an ID. You are being completely juvenile with the hat and shoe comment. Look at bullet 3, why do they not want members of the public to just spontaneously join the march. They are to be reported and then questioned for why they are joining and then also have their id checked.

Check your spelling while you are at it.

  88. Where did that come in at? Hugh tax cuts? What about all the of the taxes and regulations that have caused many many companies to move oversea so that they can still be profitable? Where did all of these crazy overbearing regulations come from? From liberals of course.

  91. where is your proof, what liberal source are you using for your facts. Please when ever making statements, be intelligent in debating and state your sources of information. Liberals are great at presenting lies and half-truths as facts. Exactly ten? Get real. Maybe only 10 cases they found, which means plenty go undetected.

Doing a quick search I see that potential sources of information are all liberal blog websites.

  92. I'm applying for Medicaid for my 89 (soon to be 90) year old mother. I'm required to provide birth certificate, driver's license, state ID, or passport. She was born in the U.S., never left the U.S., will die in the U.S.. If she has to have these verifications (which she does-except passport) there is not one valid reason why anyone should be excused from the same requirement for voting.

  93. There have been 10 cases that were prosecuted. And you KNOW which party THOSE cases were about. There have been hundreds of cases where cheating was documented and those honest upstanding Democrat law enforcement declined to prosecute. When the number of votes cast exceed the number of registered voters, it is obviously voter fraud at the polling place. When Republican poll watchers are thrown out of polling places for daring to quote the law, it is obviously voter faud at the polling place. When Black Panthers with clubs stand in front of polling places, it is VERY effective in reducing the number of elderly white voters. And you KNOW which party THOSE people tend to vote for.

    ReplyDelete
  94. D - The way this is supposed to work is you present evidence to the contrary. Simply dismissing facts that disprove your argument as "lies and half-truths" demonstrates that you have no idea what you're talking about.

  95. MrTweel -Please document ONE of the "hundreds of cases where (someone misidentified himself at the polling place and tried to vote as somebody else) and those honest upstanding Democrat law enforcement declined to prosecute." Thanks.

  98. BTW - Nope. There were 10 cases REPORTED. The single most comprehensive study of voter fraud ever conducted uncovered a total of 10 cases of voter fraud through misrepresentation at the polling place throughout the entire country over a decade. LOTS of other kinds of voter fraud by BOTH parties, but only 10 cases that could have been prevented by requiring the presentation of an ID at the polling place.

  101. OH my Helga, you don't see the hypocrisy? You don't see that the fact they are fighting NOT TO SHOW ID TO VOTE, but they are required to have ID to attend their own meeting? Geez, really? Oh well, have a great time at the meeting Helga.

  102. Let's see you need an ID to cash a check, open a checking account, savings account, open electric account, gas account credit card go into a FEDERAL BUILDING, FOOD STAMPS, WELFARE DRIVERS LICENSE These FU-KING morons don't want to provide an ID TO VOTE!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I have a different point of view and information: Voter fraud has existed for a loooong time. An example: In the 1970s it was prevalent in Chicago under Mayor Daley. Because documents can easily be forged the restrictions are tighter. There is evidence that people voted who were dead or one person has a variety of IDs for several different people. In 2008 Black Panthers (in Philadelphia??) turned away white people from voting. Without a valid ID one person could vote in several precincts.
What is wrong with paying a fee for other official documents? People must process them and are entitled to be paid for their services.
It is inaccurate to declare that THE stated aim is to discourage poor, minority, marginal voters. I am sure it happens in certain areas but political parties etc. are also discouraged to vote.
    What is your solution?

  104. Just a note for some of the other commenters:

The entire premise of this article is wrong. The NAACP does not require a photo ID to participate. This is a list of do's and don'ts for rally participants that is entirely based on safety of the participants and everyone else.

The photo ID requirement is in case the police start arresting participants. You'll have your ID and won't have to spend all day or overnight in an interrogation room trying to prove your identity and that you're not wanted for a crime. The point about carrying prescription meds only in their approved containers and the point about not carrying anything that can be construed as a weapon are also about avoiding difficulties in case of arrest.

Moreover, you have to report members of the public joining the march to a Marshal because, historically, people joining such marches from outside have started brawls, all-out riots, and looting. And then, of course, people start being arrested.

This list has nothing to do with this particular march. It's the standard list for all NAACP marches built on decades of experience, and it doesn't differ substantially from similar lists used by many other organizations, black, white, Latino, political, or anything else.

Nor is it about "racist cops arresting black people." It's about marches sometimes getting out of hand and how to minimize that likelihood. That's it. And there's not a thing "ironic" or "hypocritical" about any of it, nor anything "racist" or "leftist" or "ultra-liberal."

It's just good sense, and good advice for anyone and everyone planning a march. Period.

  105. And the Christian caucus -- religious discrimination at its finest. I've been to a country where religion rules (Saudi Arabia), and believe me; you wouldn't like living there. So please keep your religion out of our legislative bodies.

    ReplyDelete
  106. So why isn't having a photo id a good idea to ID voters? That's the point. If the NAACP recommends a photo id for a march, why are they against a photo id to vote?

    ReplyDelete
  107. 1) The Catholic Church is a religious organization open to all ethnic backgrounds. I don't personally agree with them but they should not be on this list.
    2) Several of the other organizations are just culture awareness organizations and are not activist for equal rights.
    3) I will agree that some of your organizations listed should be disbanded such as the KKK. However your beloved NAACP should be disbanded as well! If you have an organization for equal rights should it not be for everyone? If an organization is for equal rights of just one race is it not any better than another organization for equal rights for another race? No it is NOT!

  108. Blah Blah Blah, same old liberal clap trap. What do you guys get the same talking points daily in your mailbox?. Get your head out of your arse, its Obamas economy now.

  109. OK, I literally NEVER get into political discussions on blogs, and I'll probably wish I hadn't this time. But here it goes. First off, I am personally torn on the whole Voter ID thing. One one hand, I agree, being asked to provide identification doesn't feel all that unreasonable to me. On the other hand, the evidence clearly suggests that the incidence of voter fraud is so minuscule that the requirement and the associated taxpayer-funded expense, are unnecessary. So if you disagree with what I'm about to say, don't assume that you know my position on the broader issue, because I don't.

Everyone is having fun pointing out the supposed hypocrisy of advising marchers to bring IDs. The only way that is hypocritical is if you assume the marchers are representing only themselves. If they are advocating on behalf of others, then there is no hypocrisy. In my limited experience, the folks least likely to have an ID are the very old and/or very sick -- the ones who have not driven in years and therefore have no reason to keep their driver's license up to date. Those folks aren't likely to appear at a "march".
