Markey Wins Massachusetts Senate Election

Longtime Democratic Congressman Ed Markey won himself a promotion yesterday to the U.S. Senate with a solid victory over Republican businessman Gabriel Gomez in the special election caused by John Kerry's appointment as Secretary of State earlier in the year.

Markey, who had the entire Democrat machine behind him in order to prevent another Brown massacre, captured 55% of the vote and will replace temporary Senator William Cowan as Massachusetts's junior Senator within the next day. Simply taking a short walk to his new job, however, with no seniority whatsoever.

What say you?
