Earthquake Strikes off of California, 4/12/12

From The Weather Space:
The USGS has registered three earthquakes, one at magnitude-6.9, the other a 6.2. The earthquakes struck in a sequence of less than a half hour apart.

The first quake struck at 11:48 p.m. This quake registered in at a magnitude-4.7. The next quake struck at 12:01 a.m., registering a 6.2-magnitude. The largest one so far struck at 12:15 a.m., registering at a whopping 6.9-magnitude.

The quakes appear to have struck along the North American and Pacific Plate Boundary in the Gulf of California. This is the same boundary responsible for California's San Andreas Fault.

Many large earthquakes have struck since the Earth was rattled by the Indonesian quake the other day. Residents along the plate boundary should remain earthquake prepared.
