OWS Website Releases Official Goal: "Stomp out Capitalism"

Occupy Wall Street has spent months protesting against capitalism. Thousands of signs have screamed that socialism must be brought to the United States.  One example:
However, despite this evidence, OWS has lied and stated that their goal is not to get rid of capitalism.  And the Media was more than welcome to cover their eyes and believe them; the Huffington Post, for example, was more than welcome to spread their lies.

But all it takes is a little digging and anyone can find Occupy Wall Street's goal is not only known, it is official.  Anyone who argues otherwise is a liar or a moron (or both).

All one needs to do is to go over to OWS's official website.  Under the very first article, entitled Who We Are, the group details their goals.  Wade through some rambling craziness and you will come to a link (highlighted "open source project" in the article), created and put there by the founders of the protests.

Simply follow that link and in big letters you will see this:
You know, I could swear that that says they want to stomp out capitalism... probably because they say they want to stomp out capitalism.

And under their declaration, it reads:
This is their official website.  This is not some random guy rambling on the forum.  This was put there by their founders.  If you do not believe that the main goal of OWS is to get rid of capitalism when they have put it up in bright lights for everyone to see, you are officially brain-dead.

I wonder if Nancy Pelosi still supports them...

  2. Capitalism isn't a cause, it is an effect - of free markets. Those are an effect of freedom. So stomping out freedom is the goal.

  6. the ows movement is quite diverse, i doubt everyone involved would agree that capitalism in and of itself is out of the question. however, as our current state of economic affairs makes clear, our brand of capitalism is only successful for a select few, at the expense of the rest. people are worked to the bone, and still cannot afford food, healthcare or any amount of economic security. money is systematically funneled from the bottom to the top. it is the only means of expansion left, as markets are tapped, consumption is slowed, and natural resources are depleted. an end to capitalism might not be the solution, but any idiot can see that capitalism as it stands today is destructive and unsustainable. so, some say socialism is a better answer, others disagree, but some other form of economic organization is obviously needed. if you think capitalism in america today is freedom, where opportunity abounds for anyone willing to work for it, you're fucking high.

  7. Yes, capitalism is only working for a few in this country. That's why we've only been around for over 200 years, nearly everyone has a cell phone, computer, and internet access, as well as healthy drinking water and food, unlike 70% of the world. See... logic!

  8. "but some other form of economic organization is obviously needed"
The built in problem with your hatred of freedom (yes, capitalism) is that you are going to have to take it from those of us that possess it or desire it. More likely you will die trying.

  9. How about that, a female proudly carrying a sign picturing a known serial rapist and murderer - it's like she's happy to have his endorsement of her political agenda!

Feminists: you can't cure 'em, you can only wait 'til they're old enough for the death panels they crave.

  10. Excellent! Now we can take their hatred of capitalism, repackage it (as, say, T-shirts or something), and sell it back to them!

  11. Capitalism is much more than just an econ system; it's a culture. Fundamentally, it's the political branch of philosophy for living a proper life on earth. It means you are free to trade (or not) with anyone who is willing. It is not "the system of competition" as I often hear. "crony capitalism" is a misnomer. Cronyism, crony statism, crony fascism are more appropriate descriptions of what has been pushing capitalism out of America.

  14. Too many of these adult children have had the doctrine firmly placed in their heads that capitalism=greed.

That's a misconception that has been spoon-fed by mainstream media - which we all know benefits from said capitalism.

These folks are simply food for the media system that is benefiting from the years of newsertainment they've been grazing from.

  16. Anyone who says our form of capitalism isn't working due to the greed from the top earners or wallstreet etc needs to look deeper than just making a false statement. It's actually greed it self that is the problem. There is greed in every form of Government and economy no matter which type it is. So I argue its the morals and ethics as a people that is the problem. So...ask not which form of government we should have cause ours is the answer already but rather ask if as a people we need better morals and to spread those better morals thus affecting the country as whole which will take care of greed running rampant and keep it in check and make the our form of capitalism work from the vast majority of people (except the ones who just don't care about anyone except themselves).

”Our brand of capitalism is only successful for a select few, at the expense of the rest.”
Since most of the “1%” are 1 percenters for only one year, this obviously is not true. There is no select few for whom capitalism works while leaving the rest of us to pay their successful gains to them. It works for virtually everyone--and it works more the longer one lives. It works more the more one works--and accumulates.

A big problem with all the generalizations that support “occupy” movements is their static conceptions of society, income, and wealth. They state data as if they were talking about the same people over time, so that when they say “the 1% has gotten richer and richer,” and quote income data to support the claim, they think the 1% is the same people getting richer and richer, a class of people into which entry by those not already in the 1% cannot be accomplished. This is nonsense. The 1% is different every year, year after year, constantly churned. And its composition is not made up of people rising up and getting on the roof and sitting; it’s mostly made up of people who have a single-time, single-event, single-year capital gain event that, for that one year, puts them in the top 1% of earners. THe next year, and all or most subsequent years of their lives, like all years prior to their year in the 1%, they will be below the top 1% in earnings, usually well below [check how far below]. What usually gets the 1%ers into that 1%, once, is something that happens for two reasons: They work for it, and they get older. The 1% are older, not just higher earning or wealthier, and they’ve become higher earning and wealthier by gaining experience (human capital) and by saving assets from their earning.

Presenting "greed" as a cause of wealth or income or income distribution inequality is foolish. Greed is not a cause of income. It is not a cause of wealth. Talking about greed is talking about either how much someone wants or the moral quality of their desire. Being greedy does not make someone rich, and does not help someone earn money. You can be as greedy as Midas, but your fellow man will not turn over assets to you just because you want them or you want them so much. You have to do something for your fellow man to get him to give you money: You have to produce something he wants, and convince him to give you his money for it. Now, one can use government to force your fellow man to give you his money. Government uses government to force men to give their money to government. But then the problem isn't greed, it's the use of force, of government, to steal money. That's what Obama's stimulus and bailouts were: Government extraction of money from taxpayers, and dilution of the value of their money by inflation, to give money to others. Greed is irrelevant to the matter.

  20. You're holding up the universally despised Westboro scum as an example of "christian rallys(sic)"? Really? That's some pretty desperate reaching.

  23. Westboro Church is NOT supported by Christians in general, only by Westboro Church, which is USING the cover of religion to advance their wackiness. They are pretty much one family.

I agree with Anonymous above, that the problem is moral decline in this country, endorsed and brought to us by those people who are working at removing God from our society. A great number of those people are on the left, especially the far left. Their desire is that the people of this country look to them for our salvation. A number of very lost "me, me" people have bought into this.

If they are the only example of "...signs supporting murder and hate at many christian rallys" that you can come up with, then your argument fails MISERABLY. No true Christian that I know would affiliate themself with this group of scum.

  25. What most people do not understand is that capitalism is not the problem. The problem is crony capitalism, big government in bed with big business. No business should ever be bailed out on the tax payers’ revenue. Our government is handing out our money to big business so they can receive it back for campaigning. So the place to protest is in DC, the capitol and the white house. If you do not understand what crony capitalism is, Google it!

  26. OWS is essentially an anti-capitalist movement? This is my surprised face.

Anon 9:39 PM: If you think what we have today is capitalism, YOU are fucking high. OWS is profoundly monolithic at its core for the reasons I explain in the link above; the "diversity" is just surface barnacles, useful idiots that are falling away as the weather turns cold and the essence of the movement reveals itself.

Anon 7:53 AM: That's not the point. The big question is: why do movements like OWS *always* attract this sort of thing?

One of the quickest ways to identify the idiots in any discussion is to look for the ones who stop thinking as soon as their brain gets to the word "greed". Yes, that means you, Anon 8:03AM. Of course, there's a good reason why that is so; if they didn't stop thinking, they would take the next step of realizing that greed is just as present, if not more so, during the good times as well as bad. Why then doesn't it get the credit for all the progress we've made under capitalist liberty? But no, we hardly ever hear about greed when times are good...

A man who isn't greedy would never have left his comfy cave. I say the more the better.

  27. To the Anonymous poster on 12/1 at 7:53 and 8:13 AM, you said "many" Christian rallies. Westboro "Baptist" is not Christian, and represents the views of only one sick man and his tiny congregation. The media gives this fool more exposure than he warrants, but 99.9999999% of Christianity (not to mention the Bible) does NOT back him up. I wouldn't use him as an example of Christianity any more than I would use a lunatic at an OWS rally who chants "More Froot Loops!" as an example of OWS's goals.

  28. Liberals love their situational logic. Rather than debate merrits, they search for occasions where the implementation of the idea was less than perfect. Their debating style is childlike. "see, it doesn't work." Then they go on to proclaim all further discussion is absurd. It's easy and it's lazy of mind. But people lead by every little tug of the heart strings and minds made up that they are so unfairly treated don't need to hear any more. They don't want to!

  29. I found a very clear and concise explanation of OWS's goals on the Who We Are link cited by this author. It was posted as a comment, since OWS has no structural hierarchy, but here it is:

"We are asking for a mathmatical formula to calculate a fair percentage of the firm's net profit to be allocated to all its employees, not just its CEOs. We still belive in free market and prices being determined by laws of supply and demand but this is different from allowing the employers to act by total greed and irresponsibility, not recognizing the rights of those who have contributed to their becoming big. we realize that a huge percentage of the corporation's net profit should still belong to the firm itself, but employees should also have a right to a decent life by allocating a fair percentage of that corporation net profit to be distributed and allocated to its lower level employees."

This does not sound like they want to stamp out Capitalism, which pretty much has ALREADY been obliterated in this country by both Congress and crony fascism. -KE

  30. Who determines what's fair? If I put in the money and take all the risk and hire a bunch of employees at wages they accepted when hired, how are they entitled to more? This concept is absolutely anti-capitalism! What incentve is there to take risks and to attempt to build anything? Why should anyone else have the final say in determining wages for positions created by me?

  31. Westboro Baptist Church is an inbred family of hateful skanks that know nothing abt Jesus. They have taken the name of the Lord in vain to do vile works and gain fame. These will be gnashing their teeth in Hell soon enough ... I better never see them picketing anyone's funeral!!!
I'm not rich. I do hope to develop my own business. But the government poking their nose into is what makes me hesitate. I would not want to hire a bunch of ppl who would call Uncle Sam to make me bow to them. If you don't like your job, you're free to get another one or start your own business. Many businesses simply refuse to hire in this current climate bcuz it is not worth it & I surely don't blame them. Capitalism = freedom!
We have a bloated government who forces businesses to jump they hoops for employees, then signs trade agreements to allow them to take our jobs overseas to employ sweatshops! If you sincerely want change, buy Made in America, boycott businesses who moved jobs overseas but still hope to get rich selling their crap in America. Stop using big banks opting instead for small local banks that aren't traded on the open market or credit unions. Educate yourselves and take control of this runaway government that is sposed to serve the PEOPLE!!! Any legislation regarding their pay/benefits should be put to the people & pensions should reflect time served. Thank you for reading! God bless the USA!!!

  32. I try not to take a concrete stand on social issues like this in an effort to keep an open, logical point of view. Context of this article completely aside, the author was anything but credible. There are so many logical fallacies at work here that I don't even know where to begin. This is nothing more than a blog from someone w/ an opinion; NOT an unbiased article written by an ethical journalist. And you silly fools run wild with it. THIS is what's wrong with the world. People are entirely too anxious to hate each other. But hey, no big deal right? As long as we keep fighting amongst ourselves, the real world 'leaders' get to keep up the facade a little while longer.

I've read several comments pointing a proverbial finger towards these 'misguided youths with their liberal educations and spoon-fed news from the mainstream media' (that ironically is more true for "conservative" media than "leftist") What's the logical obsession with focusing on the stereotypical fringe of any group? Oh right, it's easier to discredit them. A concept any Tea Party-er should be familiar with. For example: All tea party activists are gun toting hate mongers bent on racial inequality. The same is true for OWS protestors. They're not all dirty, barefoot, pot smokin', hippy socialists. Sure, it's true for a small percentage; the FRINGE; but not for the majority. And you always have to account for the sheep; the significant percentage of participants that are swept up in the moment that want little more to do with the actual movement than to just be noisy or to make trouble.

Do you know what my liberal education has afforded me? I learned how to think logically and the importance of environmental and fiscal responsibility. THE HORROR! I was never embedded scholastically with a sense of entitlement. I'm grateful for my liberal education. Well, apart from student loan debt. (Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be able to pay it back eventually once the economy is healthier and I can find steadier work...right? And don't get your panties in a bunch. I'm perfectly aware that the debt is my responsibility and have every intention of making good on that debt.) The lesson learned? Never to put myself into debt in the first place. When I do finish my degree, it will be on my own dime as I earn it.

My advice for all those involved in this conversation? Educate yourself in the areas that are of an interest to you. Also, a class in critical thinking (logical fallacies and credibility) might prove invaluable for you. Oh, and stop watching mainstream news; it's bad for you. (Also, be careful where you get your 'independent' news. Some of them aren't much better.) The world could do with fewer misinformed Keyboard Crusaders; myself included.

  34. What a long winded comment to virtually say nothing. I do say "virtually" because there were a couple points made which I will address. Mainstream media not leaning left but rather to the right is one. That is absurd! The majority of all media gives much more airtime to any story which promotes leftist agenda; global warming, CEOs and their bonuses, republican scandals, unfounded rumors of racial bigotry in the tea party events, etc. The leftist media has made the tea party out to be violent and hate mongering and yet expresses sympathy to the OWS movement that has caused violence and destruction (not to be seen in any tea party event).

Another point you brought up was about logic which you gave no examples of this article or any of it's participants being short of; the leftists aside. You say that your leftist education has afforded you a sense of logic and fiscal responsibility. It's admirable that you intend on paying off your debt and that you consider that to be your fiscal responsibility. If you were so logical you would understand that the economy will not get better when the fed. govt. and liberal activists are trying to determine the direction of our private markets nor when there remains a mentality of wealth redistribution under the guise of "fairness".

Not all what is taken from the leftist education is a personal sense of entitlement but is a sense of entitlement nonetheless. Just because you don't believe you are entitled to more doesn't mean that you aren't lobbying for someone else who doesn't deserve it eiteher.

I agree that we should monitor our news and attempt to have as balanced of sources as we can. If more people did that, mainstream media wouldn't get away with all that they do. But the fact is that they do and they are called mainstream for a reason. This is why "Keyboard Crusaders", as you put it, are essential.

Logic has become a voice screaming from the wilderness. The idea that free enterprise is the life blood of this great nation is an idea being screamed out in the wilderness. The idea that "Profit" is not of the devil but rather the means of growth and stability is so basic and so simple and yet is being screamed in the wilderness! People screaming at businesses rather than the politicians for fairer wages and racking up thousands of dollars in damages when businesses abided by the laws set fourth by the politicians is just an absolute breakdown of all common sense and it's these voices in the wilderness trying to make the country understand again!

Yes, i am a bit of a "Keyboard Crusader" and am proud. All of the conservatives who have spoken out here, I appreciate you so much! As for the leftists who have voiced your oppinions, although I disagree and for all the reasons I've given already, you have the right to do so but I hope that you will stop being led by your heartstrings for a moment long enough to understand that while passionate, you've only allowed yourselves to become irrational thinkers taking occasions on situation by situation basis. You've lost the big picture.

It was brilliant and it worked!! So we have a tested plan. It worked because history says when there is a major extinction there is "massive" growth. What does this country need?? Massive growth. Watch a great tree in the jungle fall and what happens on the bottom floor of the forest... massive growth and things get moving again and we are not talking slow. The higher ups paid off the politicians, and where did all they Baby's Bells go? all the jobs that went with them? Yep AT&T has gobbled them all up... and now they want to buy T-Mobile?? GAG me. Decentralize, put more power in the the hands of more people. People know better what to do with their own monies. More power should be returned to the states. We need political finance reform through a national referendum for Congress will never pass it ....NEVER. Corporations are not a person. They serve a purpose but not to control all things economic and political. History repeats itself. Our children are watching us. If we can't help them then why are we having them? Whats in it for them? Whats the point of school for them, when we, the educated, can't get it somewhat right? This is quite humbling ... 800,000 plus views where a child, young girl, speaks to the UN for 7 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sb6RmRMbBY Hope is a good thing, perhaps the best of things, and a good thing never dies, so say S. It is not even clear that the 'fact' was even made by, or otherwise approved by, anyone at OWS. It is an unrelated entity, yet THIS one piece is the entire basis for this ridiculous article. And most of you commenters believed it! If you really want to know what OWS is about, go to the source (http://www.nycga.net/resources/faq/) and read it here. There is nothing in ANY of the OWS sites I've read that even suggest that the goal is to abolish Capitalism. That's just absurd. That's what those in power (government and corporate management) want you to believe. And, that picture of the woman carrying the sign about Socialism? Do you see any proof that it is associated with OWS, or is even in the US? All the people that said "Right On" or "I Agree" should be feeling pretty silly about now. You should really strive to get better informed about what's going on in the world instead of relying on 'Pundits'. Seriously.
