Italy's Prime Minister Resigns

The Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Burlesconi, has finally stepped down after fiscal reforms passed through Parliament. The three-time PM is the third-longest Premier in Italian history.

Cheers broke out in front of the palace by the hundreds of people who gathered to witness Berlusconi's final act in office, ending a 17-year political era.
