Flashback: The Left on Saddam's Capture

Many on the Left are celebrating the capture and death of Muammar Qaddafi. Even the liberal Daily Kos is beside itself.

But how did the Left respond to the capture of a far more dangerous dictator with far more blood on his hands in 2003? Well, it wasn't the same way.

Let's take Kos, circa 2003:
Isn't EVERY SINGLE ONE of these complaints what happened since under the Obama Administration?

Or Howard Dean, then running for President, lambasting the Bush Administration for taking months to capture Hussein... and saying that the United States was not safer:
The Susan Rice referenced in the article? Became one of Obama's top foreign policy advisers and was his choice as the US Ambassador to the UN.

Meanwhile, Oliver North's book War Stories helps chronicle the press reaction. Of course, almost every press outlet has been claiming another smashing success for Obama, but played a different tune in December 2003:
Or Washington Congressman Jim McDermott, who visited Saddam's Iraq to argue against toppling him. Well, of course the whole thing was staged:
Pressed by Mr. Ross about whether he meant that the timing of the capture was driven by politics, Mr. McDermott said: “I don’t know that it was definitely planned on this weekend, but I know they’ve been in contact with people all along who knew basically where he was. It was just a matter of time till they’d find him.

“It’s funny, when they’re having all this trouble, suddenly they have to roll out something.”

The congressman made the remarks on the day the president fired back at Howard Dean, the front-runner in the Democratic presidential primaries, for suggesting that he had advance knowledge of the September 11 attacks.
