U.S. Senate Confirms Panetta 100-0

The United States Senate confirmed CIA Director Leon Panetta 100-0 as the next Secretary of Defense yesterday afternoon. Senators on both sides of the aisle praised the former chief of staff from President Clinton's White House.

He is replacing Robert Gates - who has served as Defense Secretary since late 2006 when nominated by President George Bush - after serving effectively as CIA Director for the previous two and a half years, despite the clear hostility the current administration has had towards America's intelligence apparatus.

While it is increasingly unique for Senators to unanimously agree on anything, with the exception of agreeing to disagree on everything, it is refreshing to see solid defense related nominations carry the day over petty partisan politics.

I'm not sure what to expect from Mr. Panetta's upcoming term in office, but I have a feeling he will serve the country well and continue the good fight on al-Qaida and other Islamic terrorist networks just as well as Mr. Gates has done.

What say you?

  1. He did go around Obama to order the killing of Osama, but still, Panetta is a clown.

  2. I think you should have been looking at Panetta's ties to known communists. This man is determined to destroy America. The Senate is a fool's lair.
