Mitch Daniels Wins OR Straw Poll

The Governor of Indiana, Mitch Daniels, has made some waves recently. The two-term executive made a stirring and cogent speech at CPAC, warning against against the accumulation of public debt. The soft-spoken Indianan appears to have gotten some attention in other quarters of the country, as well.

Despite not polling terribly well in the majority of national GOP polls, the people of Oregon seem to think he's got something they want. When a Republican straw poll was held during the weekend, Daniels was the favorite.

The results:

Daniels: 30%
Romney: 23%
Palin: 18%
Huckabee: 10%
Gingrich: 6%
Paul: 5%
Pawlenty: 4%
Barbour: 2%
Trump: 2%

Daniels was well-ahead of his national average, where he has yet to crack 5%.

Daniels was praised for being fiscally conservative, running a state government with a budget surplus and having “core moral values.”
Perhaps this will compel Daniels to get into the fray. He has been going back and forth on whether he is actually running for the nomination next year.
