This is some of the best comedy I have seen from Dennis Miller in a long time and I believe is sardonic, cutting edge comedy that is laugh out loud funny, albeit politically incorrect. Miller makes fun of those you aren't supposed to make fun of. He brings some degree of levity to a very serious subject.

How can one so keenly
aware
of the comedy of Dennis Miller over the years not appreciate the "biting commentary, obscure references", pointed comedy that Miller presents on his recent HBO special "The Big Speech." This clip is so provocative and truthfully funny as to bring one back to the comedy of Dennis Miller's "Weekend Update". This comedy cuts to the quick and will make a lot of organizations angry. I suspect a fatwa to be issued any day now. Dennis Miller is a comedic genius and a very brave soul.

ReplyDeleteAfter I read this "Comedy Examiner", I was left to ponder if we watched the same "Big Speech". I found him to be spot-on and hilarious. The critic thought otherwise, apparently.
Cast & Quilts, I agree. It's almost as if there are 2 different versions out there. I think the linked comedy critique let his politics cloud his comedic judgement. Dennis Miller was awesome, and still is!

ReplyDeleteIf you've watched TV the past several years, you'd certainly have noticed Dennis Miller's glaring absence at some of the biggest comedic venues...The annual White House Correspondents Dinners, The Mark Twain Prizes, Jon Stewarts Rally, Letterman..,ect. On and on, Dennis is persona non grata at many of these prime comedic venues. The Entertainment world, as a whole, loathes Dennis. Even Miller's comedic birthplace(SNL)doesn't want him back.
