Murkowski: "TARP Worked"

In August of this year Lisa Murkowski, the senior Senator from Alaska, lost the Republican primary for Senator to Joe Miller.  In a year in which the average voter is particularly disgusted by politicians who cling to power despite the wishes of the people, Murkowski refused to concede defeat and decided to run as a write-in candidate.

Polls show Miller and Murkowski close, but it seems that Murkowski is trying to put distance between herself and Mr. Miller by discussing TARP.  According to Murkowski, the Troubled Asset Relief Program worked wonders for the United States' economy.  On top of that, Joe Miller's criticism of TARP and her, Murkowski's campaign says, makes him a 'liar:'
“Joe ignores that TARP worked in 2008 and 2009 keeping Alaska out of recession."
This statement sounds eerily similar to the President's claim on Wednesday that he "prevented the second great depression."  But I'm sure that Murkowski's campaign wouldn't use an inane analogy like a car in a ditch, right?  Right?
“When the house is on fire, Alaskans are smart enough to know you use what water you have and put it out. Once the fire is out then you take steps to make sure it never happens again. Lisa is taking those steps, but she was courageous enough to do what was needed to save Alaskans’ retirement incomes and the state’s economic future.”
Oh man.  Well, at least Murkowski's campaign didn't double-down on her support for TARP, right?  There's no way that they could have said something like, oh I don't know, that the country would have been in worse condition with TARP, right?
“As an eyewitness to the economic devastation that was taking place, I am convinced that the TARP program did, in fact, stabilize the banking and credit markets….Without a TARP, we would have faced a worse situation.”
You know what, Murkowski's campaign is simply flailing if they think that they can says these things with impunity.
