Meek: Clinton Convinced Me Twice to Drop Out, but I Did Not

Breaking now, Democrat candidate for Senate in Florida Kendrick Meek now says that former President Bill Clinton tried desperately to convince him to drop out of the race.  Not only that, but Meek had agreed to drop out twice, but then reneged and decided to stay in the race.

President Clinton had talked to Meek repeatedly over the last few weeks leading up to the election, constantly trying to get Meek to drop out in an attempt to hurt Republicans front-runner Marco Rubio.  Clinton, according to Meek, convinced him twice to drop out of the race and endorse Independent candidate Charlie Crist, but Meek went against his word.

As Politico reports:
“The argument was: ‘You can be a hero here. You can stop him, you can change this race in one swoop,’” said another Democrat familiar with the conversations, who said Clinton had bluntly told Meek that he couldn’t win the race.
But Meek did not back down, though he did indeed agree to do so.

Ironically, rumors of Meek dropping out of the race have been surfacing since early October.  Even more ironic, Meek himself denied that those rumors had no basis in fact.
