Rick Perry calls for Donald Trump to withdraw from presidential race

On Saturday, Rick Perry called on fellow GOP candidate Donald Trump to withdraw from the 2016 presidential race. Perry's statement comes after Trump attacked U.S. Senator John McCain's military service.

“Donald Trump should apologize immediately for attacking Senator McCain and all veterans who have protected and served our country. As a veteran and an American, I respect Sen. McCain because he volunteered to serve his country.

"I cannot say the same of Mr. Trump. His comments have reached a new low in American politics. His attack on veterans make him unfit to be Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, and he should immediately withdraw from the race for President," Perry said to Pundit Press.

"He is a war hero because he was captured," Trump said of McCain during an exchange with pollster Frank Luntz.

"I like people that weren't captured, OK? I hate to tell you. He is a war hero because he was captured. OK, you can have -- I believe perhaps he is a war hero," Trump continued.

I don't often agree with John McCain on political issues, but there is no doubt he is a war hero. He also comes from a long line of very distinguished military heroes.

McCain was shot down over Hanoi and badly injured. He subsequently endured five and a half years
as a prisoner of war, including periods of torture. In 1968, he refused a North Vietnamese offer of early release, because it would have meant leaving before other prisoners who had been held longer.

McCain's awards and decorations:
Silver Star
Legion of Merit
Distinguished Flying Cross
Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device
Purple Heart

Trump is not worthy of any additional time in this election. This waste of oxygen is not worthy enough to carry John McCain's jockstrap.

So, Donald, what is your solution when your plane is shot down over enemy territory. Wait, I forgot, you never served a day in the military and you never put yourself in harm's way.

Maybe you had a better solution for the thousands of military on Bataan who, after months of fighting and out of food, medicine and ammunition, became Prisoners of War of the Japanese.

The only honorable thing for Trump to do now is to apologize, shut up, and drop out of the presidential race.
