Describing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as "a soldier in a holy war against Americans," prosecutors made opening statements Wednesday morning in the Boston Marathon bombing trial.
Assistant U.S. Attorney William Weinreb told the court that Tsarnaev was radicalized over a two-year period and believed that the U.S. was an enemy of Muslims.
Weinreb went into graphic details, explaining how innocent victims bled to death as a result of the April 15, 2013, marathon bombing.
"The bomb tore large chunks of flesh out of Martin Richard," and the boy bled to death on the sidewalk as his mother helplessly looked on, Weinreb told the jury, as the boy's parents sat in the courtroom.
