Dem Rep. Bennie Thompson Blasts Clarence Thomas as "Uncle Tom" on Islamic Radio Show

Calling his opinion legitimate and not racist because he is "black," Democrat Representative from Mississippi Bennie Thompson blasted Justice Clarence Thomas as an "Uncle Tom" during an appearance on a New Nation of Islam radio program.

During a wide-ranging interview in which Thompson made numerous racially charged and ignorant comments, the Congressman also stated that people who do not support ObamaCare only do so because of their hatred for President Obama's race.

Later, when talking about a recent Supreme Court decision in which the voters of Michigan were allowed to decide whether colleges could consider race when accepting students, the host of the show brought up Justice Sotomayor. "And there's Uncle Tom Clarence Thomas!" Thompson added.

The Representative later continued, "When I look at the, the decisions that he's been part of on that court, it’s almost to the point saying this man doesn't like black people, he doesn't like being black."

When asked today why it was appropriate for him to say such ignorant, racist things, Mr. Thompson responded, "But I'm black."

You can read that exchange, via CNN, below:
(Dana) Bash: Isn't that a racially charged term?

Thompson: "For some it is, but to others it's the truth."

Bash: Because looking at that and hearing that kind of language, that certainly wouldn't be appropriate if it was coming from somebody who was white.

Thompson: "But I'm black."

Bash: That makes it OK?

Thompson: "I mean, you're asking me the question, and I'm giving you a response. The people that I represent, for the most part, have a real issue with those decisions–voter ID, affirmative action, Affordable Care Act–all those issues are very important and for someone in the court who's African American and not sensitive to that is a real problem."
