Army officer recommends no jail for Bowe Bergdahl

I think there is little doubt that the Obama administration is applying pressure in an effort to influence the outcome in this case.

A Army officer says accused deserter Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl should not be sent to a military prison.

Bergdahl's attorney Eugene Fidell confirmed that Lt. Col. Mark Visger "recommended that the charges be referred to a special court-martial and that a punitive discharge and confinement would be inappropriate given all the circumstances."

Paul Boyce, a spokesman for the U.S. Army's Force Command, released a statement Saturday that didn't confirm Visger's decision.

"As legal action is ongoing, we continue to maintain careful respect for the military-judicial process, the rights of the accused, and ensuring the case's fairness and impartiality," Boyce said.
