DC Councilman: Change Redskins Name Because Its "Racist"

District of Columbia Councilman David Grusso is introducing a resolution on the City Council calling for the Washington Redskins to change their name, which he calls "racist and derogatory," to something unoffensive such as Redtails - the groundbreaking World War 2 African-American air squad.

Really?

I realize the use of Native-American symbols, tribes and names has evolved from common twentieth century sports jargon to dozens of lawsuits challenging the use of such terminology, but can we be adults for just one moment.... Indian culture is so firmly rooted in everything present day America that using their terminology is done more out of respect and appreciation for them, not political incorrectness.

Sports teams, such as the Braves, Blackhawks, Seminoles, etc. etc. Don't use those names to discriminate against Native culture, but rather to select great warrior tribes to base their athletic team or program spirit on, and in the Cleveland Indians case - they choose their name to honor one of the earliest ballplayers, an Indian.

There is nothing discriminatory about Redskins being used as the Washington football team's official name, and any attempt to change it is based on political correctness superiority complex or a small group of petty Tribal members who see everything through the prism of victim hood racial politics, both of which should have no say in what the Washington football team is called.

Ahem, the Redskins.

What say you?
