Venezuela To Audit Votes, But Results Are "Irreversible"

HT: BBC

After a week of angry calls from Henrique Capriles and his supporters for a manual recount of last Sunday's presidential election results between himself and declared winner Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela's electoral commission announced that there will be an electronic audit of the vote, which saw Maduro - Chavez's hand selected successor - win by less than three hundred thousand ballots.

Although the socialist government bowed the public pressure in the end and agreed to do something to quiet political discontent, Capriles can look forward to nothing more than a pyrrhic victory... as the commission's deputy head also stated in her announcement that the audit will have no affect on the election whatsoever as last Sunday's results are "irreversible."

Leaving the nation of Venezuela embroiled in political chaos.

And with a former bus driver and socialist bureaucrat who has labeled his primary political opponent as the devil and traitorous in charge, controlling the political apparatus that has promised his presidency will remain even if the audit reveals defects in the election results, how could you not help but feel for the people of this economic and liberty wasteland?

Unsurprisingly, Maduro's "victory" has received congratulations from fellow comrades Vladimir Putin and Raul Castro, while Chavez inspired allies in South America have fully backed him, with Bolivia calling the United States hypocrites for refusing to recognize Maduro because President Bush won his '04 reelection race by a similarly small margin.

Yes, because the United States under President Bush had a record of influencing elections and fraud like a certain country we know.. (cough Venezuela shipping ballots to Honduras cough).. Uh huh. Whatever you say.

What say you?
