Interview with Karen Handel, Author of Planned Bullyhood

Pundit Press is proud to present interview number 57 in our ongoing interview series. She's been the first elected Republican Secretary of State, as well as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Sonny Perdue. She joined the fight as Senior VP of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She has recently written Planned Bullyhood about how she was bullied after the famous spat between the organizations. We thank her for her time.

1. When and why did you decide to write Planned Bullyhood?

I decided to write this book some months after leaving Komen and after a book agent reached out to me on behalf of the publisher. Writing a book on this -- or any topoc for that matter -- wasn't something I had ever considered. I wrote Planned Bullyhood because an organization I care about (Komen) and a cause that so many of us care about (ending breast cancer) was taken hostage by Planned Parenthood and its allies on the left. They literally tried to destroy Komen and all to make a political point - - to further the "war on women" campaign theme and to send a message that no one can walk away peacefully from PP. this was never about the money or mammograms -- it was just $700k in PP's $1 billion budget and PP does not do mammograms. in fact, according to cecile richards, 95% of PP's clients are under 40. guidelines call for mammograms starting at age 40. PP put its political agenda ahead of women and the fight against breast cancer.

2. What is one surprising fact that most people don't know about Planned Parenthood?

Three important facts: 1). PP does NOT do mammograms. 2) 95% of PP's clients are under the age of 40 -- guidelines call for mammograms beginning at age 40. 3) PP receives $1.5 million a day in OUR tax dollars. our tax dollars are effectively subsidizing PP's political activities which include nearky $5 million in tv ads already purchased in support of Obama's re-election.

3. How has your public service shaped your opinion of the Planned Parenthood vs. Susan Komen Foundation fight?

When I joined Komen, i stepped back from politics. While i had personal concerns re PP and even Komen's relationship, I always kept Komen's mission -- the fight against breast cancer as the top priority. I did not view the fight against breas cancer has left or right -- it is simply about ending this devastating disease that affects 1 in 8 women. WHat has shaped my opinion about PP's attack on Komen is this: PP and the left nothing about the fight against breast cancer or even women -- PP and the left cared about making an example of Komen and they bought a good organization to its knees for their own political agenda.
