Hearing

Thanks for the guest post by Esteban Vinson

I first noticed something was up with my son when he didn’t start speaking like the books said he should. He was about a year old and still not saying any words. I knew he understands everything we said, but he mostly communicated through gestures and grunts. Some people said it was normal, especially for boys, and to just give him time. I knew it was something, and when I noticed how loud he always wanted the tv programs I find for him on http://www.direct.tv/ on, I mentioned to his pediatrician that maybe he wasn’t hearing very well. I thought that if for some reason he wasn’t hearing speech sounds properly, than that might explain why he wasn’t speaking. She referred us to an ENT doctor, who did a more thorough hearing evaluation, and it turns out that although he didn’t get ear infections often, he had low levels of fluid constantly in his ears.
