Interview with Howard Portnoy

Pundit Press is proud to present interview number 47 in our ongoing series. Today we're interviewing Howard Portnoy, a blogger at HotAir's Green Room. Mr. Portnoy has also written for the NY Daily News and is an author. We thank him for his time to take part in this interview.

1. When and why did you become involved in blogging?

I started blogging five years ago. Prior to that, ghost-wrote some dozen books on art, health, and music, but I was always a closet "news junkie" and decided to try my hand at political writing.

2. Do you consider yourself more of a libertarian or conservative?

I am a small-L libertarian.

3. What are President Obama's odds of being re-elected?

That's anyone's guess at this point. I have written several blog entries noting the "conventional wisdom"--that winning reelection is next to impossible when unemployment is north of 9% or a candidate's approval rating is below 47%. But these are just rough benchmarks. An incumbent always has the edge, and the Republicans will not be nominating a candidate that voters are wildly enthusiastic about. Intrade has even money right now on Obama. I think that's a fair assessment of his chances.

4. Do you have a favorite for the GOP nomination yet?

Early on, I liked and admired Herman Cain, but I think he is now toast. Newt Gingrich has baggage, but he is a great debater. I believe the candidate will ultimately be Romney by default.

5. What has been your proudest moment as a writer (blogging and otherwise)?

Publishing my first novel, "Hot Rain," G. P. Putnam's Sons.

6. anything else you'd like to add?

Thanks!
