Ken Burns: "Slavery was our worst idea. I'm not sure Prohibition was second, but it's is right up there.""

I'm not sure that slavery, per se, was an American idea even though it was terrible. Prohibition, however is purely American and gives a glimpse into the progressive politics that brought it about.
