Jewish Vote Swings NY-9 to GOP

Republican Bob Turner pulled off the upset of the 2011 political calender last night: winning New York's 9th congressional district with 54% of the vote, becoming the first Republican representative of this Queens area district in nearly nine decades.

However, the reasoning behind the victory should not be lost on politicos and common observers.

Democrats did not break rank and support Bob Turner because he was running against the economic failures of Barack Obama, but because he ran against the foreign policy naivete of Obama on Israel in this very, very New York Jewish district that suggests a seismic shift in the political landscape.

New York's 9th district only supported Barack Obama 55-44% in the 2008 election, which in terms of New York City is surprising, but that's due to the heavy Jewish and foreign policy concentration in the district. The results last night indicate the electoral swing of political Jews to the Republican Party, at long last, because of Obama's hostile and downright anti-Israeli worldviews.

Robert Turner (R) - 32,446 - 54%.
David Weprin (D) - 27,669 - 46%.

What say you?
