Feingold Not to Run for Senate in 2012

Former Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold has announced today that he will not seek the Senate again next year. Feingold lost his race last year to Republican Ron Johnson. Feingold has been talked up as a possible candidate, considering some residual popularity among the Democratic base.

Still, Feingold decided not to run:
“Being your representative was the greatest honor of my life, a fulfillment of a dream,” he said. “But for now I am thoroughly enjoying the life of a private citizen in this great state of Wisconsin.”
Feingold may decide to run for Governor in 2014 against incumbent Scott Walker, which would make for an interesting race. Former Governor and Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson is likely to run for the Republican nomination for Senate next year.
