David Wu Officially Resigns

Representative David Wu (D-OR) officially resigned late last night from the U.S. House of Representatives after serious allegations of sexual misconduct with a fundraiser's daughter created a media and political firestorm against him.

He waited until the debt-ceiling debate was concluded earlier this week - when he voted aye for the deal - as promised to resign from Congress. Governor John Kitzhaber will call a special election to replace Wu in the near future.

Republican odds of victory in Oregon's 1st district are slim, but businessman Rob Cornilles - who received over 42% of the vote in 2010 against Wu - has announced his campaign to replace the Congressman. While I'm not confident of success, I'm hopeful that Republicans might be able to win this seat.

What say you?
