Obama's Afghan Shame

President Barack Obama's nationally televised troop draw down announcement last night was one big shame after another.

1. He never mentioned the successful counterinsurgency, or the General that has put it in place over the last eighteen tough months. Everything was about his "commitment" to draw down troop levels, not the military genius who has America on the cusp of victory after nine years of total war in Afghanistan.

2. His announcement neglected to include the common war words of "victory," or "success" when discussing our mission in Afghanistan. It's as if the only thing that matters is getting out of wars, but not caring what the end results are.

3. His troop draw downs have nothing to do with military recommendations, but pure petty politics. More than 20,000 troops will be withdrawn in September of next year - before the fighting season is over, and almost two months before the Presidential election.

I could keep going, but what good is it?

Unless someone is brave enough to filibuster the entire Congress until drastic changes are made, such as not withdrawing any U.S. troops before the fighting season is over and trusting our military commanders on the ground, President Obama will be personally responsible for defeat if, God forbid it, such an event occurs.

What say you?
