Poll: 46% of Americans will "Definitely Not Vote for Obama"

With his base of supporters crumbling and his polls tanking because of high gas prices and the economy, President Obama is facing more bad news today.  In a new poll released earlier today, an astounding 46% of Americans stated that they would "definitely not vote for" President Obama.

In the 2008 race, Obama received 53% of the vote against 46% for John McCain and Sarah Palin. This new poll takes into consideration those voters who did not cast a ballot in 2008, including some that may have come of age in the previous three years.

This news has serious implications for the President, who just recently announced that he would be running for a second term in office; namely, that only 54% of Americans would even consider voting for him at all.

Of the remaining 54%, only 31% stated that they would "definitely vote for" the President.  That leaves only 23% of voters who would simply consider voting for him.  Worse for the President, this means that 15% more Americans would never vote for him than vote for him.

So Obama runs a full 22% under his 2008 performance as many of his previous backers (including, I'm sure, many disappointed independents) are not even sure if they would support him. many of these could be dispirited former Hillary Clinton supporters or just people who realized that Obama could not live up to the hype.

In a sister poll, released the same day, only 38% of Americans believed that the President was "definitely" born in the United States, with another 18% saying that he "probably" was born here.  Obviously, 56% of Americans is not a super-majority of any kind, particularly when talking about such a fundamental question.

While Obama is launching his re-election strategy, he better keep in mind that the mood of the country is souring-- and will continue as gas prices go up further.

  1. Think about the stupidity of the 31% who already plan to vote for him
