McCaskill Hit with Ethics Complaint

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill's re-election bid was already shaky. The Democrat barely won in the 2006 Democratic wave-- largely in part by claiming that her opponent opposed Parkinson's research. The Senator is now facing another barrage-- this one due to her own actions.

The Missouri Republican Party of Missouri has lodged a complaint against her, arguing that she improperly used public money. This took place after she spent $90,000 in public funds for personal travel on a private jet.

“The rule is pretty clear. There is a way you can use a private aircraft,” Smith told reporters during a Tuesday conference call. “It’s obvious there’s been thousands and thousands of taxpayer dollars going to a private entity. How much does she benefit from that vis-a-vis making money on the aircraft is not something that we know.”
Smith added: “[McCaskill] only sent the money back to the government once the curtain was pulled aside and you can see she used taxpayer dollars for political purposes.”

This happened despite the McCaskills being worth more than $15 million. Well, at least she'll still have the money after being booted from the Senate in 2012.
