Kaine Likely Running in VA Senate

With the surprise announcement of Virginia Senator Jim Webb's retirement, the race there has been up in the air. Former Governor and Senator George Allen has announced that he is running for his old seat, although he will likely be challenged for the Republican nomination.

One possible candidate for the office is former Governor Tim Kaine. Kaine is currently the head of the Democratic National Committee-- and oversaw the Democrats' horrible Congressional losses last year. Kaine is still popular in Virginia and could create a lively race in 2012.

Kaine has made rumblings that he may run for the seat. Kaine would likely be the most electable Democrat to run so far for it.

"Governor Kaine told his law school class today what is already widely known which is that he is increasingly likely to run," DNC's statement said initially.
Kaine had told a Democratic gathering in Roanoke that he was considering a possible run, and pundits had been speculating that it appeared increasingly likely Kaine would enter the race. But Kaine had not publicly characterized the likelihood of a candidacy until Monday.

The races are heating up-- over a year out.
