Senator John Kyl to Retire

Arizona Senator John Kyl has announced that he will be retiring at the end of his term. The Republican is finishing out his third term. This announcement was unexpected but came after some speculation. Kyl was originally elected in 1994 after serving four terms in the House.
The Arizona lawmaker is the No. 2 Republican in the Senate.

Kyl, 68, served four terms in the House before winning a Senate seat. In 2006, he was named one of the 10 best senators by Time Magazine.

Replacing the senator, who is a major force in finance and defense policy, could prove to be an interesting fight.

The GOP should be able to keep this seat.
