Republicans Capture Louisiana State Senate.

Republican Jonathan Perry defeated Democrat Nathan Granger in yesterday's special election in Louisiana's 26th Senatorial District. The election was held to replace a Democratic legislator who resigned his seat to serve as Commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles in Governor Bobby Jindal's administration.

So why is this important to you?

Well, Jonathan Perry's victory* marks the first time since Reconstruction that Republicans will have complete control of not only the State Senate, but of the entire Louisiana legislature. The Democrat Party is spiraling out of control and into oblivion in one of their former strongholds.

This is a big deal - Republicans might control six of seven House seats; one of two Senate seats and the entire executive branch, but taking over a branch of state government that has remained in Democrat control since Rutherford B. Hayes ended Reconstruction in the late 1870's is absolutely phenomenal, and quite amazing.

What say you?

* - Perry received 51.75% of the vote to Granger's 48.25%.
