Chicago GOP Could Win Two Seats on City Council.

Chicago Republicans have much to whine about:

  1. Rahm Emanuel was elected with 55% of the vote.
  2. Sandi Jackson (7th ward) was reelected with 53%.
  3. James Balcer (11th ward) was reelected with 61%.

However, Chicago Republicans could win two seats on the City Council.

Republican Maurita Gavin has forced a runoff in the 41st ward with Democrat Mary O'Connor - O'Connor received 30.2% to Gavin's 25.1% yesterday night. Retired police officer John Garrido, who voted in the Republican Primary last February, has also forced a runoff election in the 45th ward with Democrat foe John Arena - Garrido received 32.5% to Arena's 22.6%.

The Republican Party held exactly one ward (41st) during the last term, which was quite useless when compared to the Democrats 49, but political progress is made slowly in a City like Chicago where the Democratic Machine has ruled for decades unchallenged and unafraid.

What say you?
