Major Romney Supporter Compares Palin to Justin Bieber, Says She is not Competent

Even though former governor Mitt Romney has not announce his Presidential campaign yet, supporters of his are already in attack mode.  Mark DeMoss, a well-connected Romney supporter, released a memo recently that touted Romney as the best candidate.  More notable, however, were his swipes at other Republicans who are prospective candidates for 2012.

DeMoss begins the memo, which he sent out to hundreds of major donors and pastors, outlining what he sees as needed in the upcoming campaign.  He then quickly moves into listing people who "share" the same values, including Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, and Sarah Palin.  At the end of the list, DeMoss states that values alone cannot win, and then proceeds to list why he believes Romney is the best choice.
Romney
Amongst the reasons why DeMoss believes Romney is the best candidate is that he isn't bad at fundraising (even though he only raised 1/7 of Obama and 2/7 of McCain) and because a "poll" stated that Romney is by far the favorite candidate of Republicans.  In the same poll, Sarah Palin was number five, behind Mitt Romney, Mitch Daniels, Tim Pawlenty, and John Thune.

After this, DeMoss sends veiled barbs at Palin in his support of Romney.

For example, DeMoss touts Romney's time as governor as important, but he is sure to point out that Romney spend four years in that office:  "Mitt Romney has been in government long enough to know how government works (four years as governor)."
Palin
However, the most obvious attack on Palin comes at the bottom of the fourth page of the memo.  DeMoss not only alludes to Palin being incompetent, but he also attacks her well-known ability to energize a conservative crowd:
A candidate for president of the United States should be capable of becoming president, and then competent to be the president.
Those who would suggest I am placing values on the back burner will be misreading me and  wrong.  I am only saying that a candidate’s values alone are not enough to get my vote.  For  example, my pastor shares my values, but I don’t want him to be my president.  (By the way,  “energizing a crowd” is also not enough; Justin Bieber can do that—but I don’t want him to  be president either.)
DeMoss rounds out his letter by explaining how he found out about Mitt Romney and why he was convinced Romney was the right person for the Presidency.  His last sentence reads, "I hope many of you will join me.  Thank you."

  1. DeMoss is looking to become Ambassador to England and create the same empire old man kennedy did when he was Ambassador under FDR. Now that FDR is looking more and more like, at least, a socialist, old man kennedy certainly must have had the same ambitions, if he was that close to FDR. Also, we can see where the offspring of the old man got their socialist leanings. romney is about as poor a choice as anyone on the repub list. huckabee should stick to playing country music. palin has, what appears to be the weak woman characteristic, which, I think is a myth but that's how she's portrayed. gingrich is the only one, I would seriously consider giving my vote but he's lost that lovin' conservative feeling and I'm afraid of that. I want a gonad rich, punch you in the eye candidate and he's the guy in New Jersy, only I don't think he'd do it. Well, maybe, he would. obama was only a community organizer, whatever the heck that is, before he got the senate job, both state and federal, so, what's wrong with Christie going after it. I would give him my vote in a heartbeat. And, really, DeMoss should shut his mouth and stay out of this re: his vested interest $$$$$$$$$

  2. DeMoss is correct.

We need more than a pretty face, more than a recognized name and much more than someone who simply knows how to repeat certain catch phrases to whip up a crowd.

  3. Uhhh... Romney is the member of a racist cult.

The Mormon church believes that black people are cursed and did not allow them to join until 1978.

    Romney is finished.

  4. DeMoss' major point is: "2. Who is most capable of mounting the kind of campaign (raising money, recruiting staff and volunteers, presenting a clear message) necessary to upset a sitting president?"

DeMoss repeats Romney's wealth is of fundamental importance several times, since Romney financed much of his own campaign. Romney's money will rent the support of the Beltway establishment consultants.

DeMoss' claim that Romney presents a clear message is ridiculous. Nobody knows Romney's position on major issues, because he keeps quiet while Sarah Palin does the heavy lifting.

Does anyone know Romney's position on Obamacare, the Federal clone of Romneycare?

Does anyone know Romney's position on abortion?

  5. DeMoss just retrenched my decision NOT to vote for his plastic candidate.

  6. SP has been leading the fight against Obama for almost two years. We might as well make it official and nominate her in 2012. She has the right policy positions and has shown more fortitude than any other Republican contender. She has stood up to the left’s worse. We know she can. Can another?

IMO, knowing what the right thing to do is the easier part. It's having the courage to do the right thing, and the tenacity to see it through, that are the rare traits to find in a candidate. These are two of SP's strengths.

I want to add: If another Republican candidate bests Palin in the primary, then we will have a good candidate.

But if we let it be that it is the Left that beats her, and they are successful at diminishing her, it assures that they will target, freeze, polarize, and use whatever other deceitful weapons they can conjure up on the next one of us they perceive as a threat. And then we'll just have another conservative become "unelectable," until we're left with one who truly is.
