House Representative Gabrielle Giffords Killed by Gunman

Breaking:  House Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head while holding a public event in Tucson.  Another eleven were also shot; Giffords was reportedly shot at "point blank range."

The gunman is in custody.

Update:  Unfortunately, it is now being reported that Mrs. Giffords has died.


Update (2:25pm):  It is now being reported that four more people have died, including a child.


Update (2:30pm):  Fox News is now reporting that the assassin was a lone gunman who was shot and tackled as he attempted to flee.


Update (2:53):  Fox News is now reporting that Giffords may still be alive.
