Charles Rangel Finally Censured

New York Congressman Charlie Rangel was finally disciplined by the House of Representatives yesterday. In the face of tax fraud and siphoning funds for personal projects the Democrat was officially censured by the House. The vote was overwhelming: 333-79. Even a majority of Democrats would vote in favor.

Of course, Rangel earlier stated that there was 'no evidence' of corruption:

Some of the charges against him:

  • Misusing office to create center in his honor.
  • Used free postage to ask for donations.
  • Received over $1 million consulting with a firm while he was Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. This happened while meeting with a lobbyist from the firm about tax laws.
  • Failure to report income.
  • Using rent-stabilized property as a campaign headquarters.

  1. Didn't Chawlie use multiple rent-controlled properties that were listed as campaign or district offices?
