Election 2010: Gibson takes lead in NY-20.

Chris Gibson is a pure American hero. He served in the United States Army for 24 years, during which he served in both the Kosovo conflict and the Iraq War, and earned four Bronze Stars, two Legions of Merit, and one Purple Heart. Now he's attempting to serve his country by defeating Congressman Scott Murphy in New York's 20th congressional district.

Congressman Murphy was elected to represent New York's 21st congressional district in March of 2009, during a special election to replace Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who was just appointed to the US Senate by Governor Paterson nine weeks beforehand. Murphy won the election over Republican Jim Tedisco by a mere 726 votes out of 140,000 ballots cast.

The district was represented by Republican Congressman John Sweeney for two terms, until Kirsten Gillibrand defeated him in 2006. In 2008, Gillibrand would go on to win re-election in one of the most expensive House campaigns that year against the former Chairman of the New York State GOP, Sandy Treadwell.

According to a fresh Siena University survey, Chris Gibson is now leading his Democratic opponent, Congressman Scott Murphy, by nine points with just six days to go until election day. This comes one week after a Gibson for Congress sponsored survey showed his campaign up by two points, and seven weeks after a previous Siena survey had Murphy leading by seventeen points.

Siena University survey of 676 likely voters:
Chris Gibson (R) - 51%.
Rep. Murphy (D) - 42%.
Undecided/unsure - 7%.

Republicans are on track to gain three-to-five congressional seats in the State of New York, which is absolutely amazing considering that New York is virtually in a Democratic stranglehold across most of the State. Especially since most, if not all statewide Democratic candidacies are expected to be victorious.
